I don't think he quite gets the spirit or meaning of the song that he's singing. From the very beginning, when he flips his hair, or when he's strutting across the stage posing--it's not *that* kind of song.

I don't think he has a bad voice. If he had used less vibrato (like 70% less), it wouldn't sound so forced and would've been much better, IMO.

So, due to the less-than-humble nature and inappropriateness of his performance and the excessive vibrato, I would have to say nah.

I agree. There are some artists that shouldn't tackle a song such as Redemption Song, and Constantine is one of them. I can't think of any American Idol contestants who could suitably cover this song. There's no depth in his vocals here, and it sickens me to hear the girls screaming in such shallow fashion. Redemption Song is NOT a song you go "whoooo" to.

Since I have never heard the song before or seen anyone else perform it, I have nothing to compare it to. And I have seen Constantine do it many times, and have loved it each time. He has his Debut CD out now. Check it out. Mostly new songs w/just a couple of covers.

Try watching Bob Marley versions and Ziggy Marley's covers of it. They're here on youtube. Seems neither Constantine, nor his "whoooo-ing" crowd have even the slightest understanding what this song's about. It's a song you LISTEN to, not one you go "whooo!" too while some American Idol singer preens and postures and flips his hair back. It's about slavery, and it has Bob looking at his life, and the life of his ancestors, as he sings about the past, present and the future.
