Geez, you guys, Mew is not a girl, (or a boy).

According to the games, Mew is impregnated then gives birth. The thing is, that's not exactly the case. When they say "Mew is pregnant", they mean they have made an egg cell to make Mewtwo. That's how cloning works. When it "gives birth", they mean that it is now in the process of being in those tube thingies. They did this all from the DNA of Mew's hair, Mew did not actually give birth. Or, that's what I think. :)

Mew is a female in my book. In Red/Blue/Green, Mew is noted to give birth to Mewtwo. Or at least carry the embryo to some extent, (I don't take the all Pokemon lay eggs or by 'birth' they mean 'gave ideas to make Mewtwo' as canon, it seems more like a cover-up to hide the fact that Pokemon breed by, well, breeding). This'll also explain why Mewtwo is male, if it was a direct clone experiment, Mewtwo would be female, but assuming it was more like Mew 'reproduced', it would explain Mew2's gender

@ShadowtailsST Maybe, but Pokemon don't seem to keep track of that. Anyway, that could be enough proof for the possibility of a Mewthree, which would be much more powerful than either of them. However, I'd see such a thing as a spoiled brat, not just some sort of powerhouse like everyone else wants.

Yeah the first one was by far the best Pokemon movie. The second one was pretty cool, too, but after that everything just sucked. Also, this is the only Pokemon... well, anything, where people have actually been killed (i.e. lab scene at the beginning)

This theme fits the movie and mew perfectly, it's sad, although you can hear some bright happy parts in the end. This movie almost made me cry when I watched it yesterday, when the pokemon cry you know.

yes but there are many reasons for mew's gender mystery:

1:he/she is not a girl because hes pink,for that consult dbz's kid buu who is the strongest vilan but male and pink

2:if mew were female than mewtwo would be aswell and hes not

and finnaly its not female because of his voice;listen to pikachu who clearly has SOMEWHAT of a tone like mew

but if I remember correctly, Mewtwo didn't evolve from Mew as regular Pokemon do, he was created using some part of Mew...so he could be a different gender.

According to Red/Blue (never played FR/LG refused to have my childhood memories fooled with) it is implied in the Pokemon Mansion diaries that Mew was impregnated and gave live birth to Mewtwo, making Mew a girl. Kinda creepy, but that's how clones work...but officially Mew is genderless so...

it said that Mew "gave birth" to Mewtwo, but it means it provided the genetic material for it. In most pokémon stuff Mewtwo was born in a tank indipendant of Mew. (see First Movie and Pokemon Special Manga) I say if it happens in something very closely related to pokemon it probably counts as canon. :)
