@Templarforever Well good for you for indulging in your self gratifying delusions but as long as it gives you happiness right. Leave it up to others to forge ahead into the future and continue to the wealth of knowledge while you parasites and leaches of the human spirit benefit.
And this isn't some silly "live for the moment" video. This world matters, and it matters now. Don't wait for something better, because this is all there is - all there will ever be.
I agree this is life is a bunch of experiences strung together you cant enjoy them worrying about the future. I think I'm going to take it one beer at a time and not worry about the next beer I'm having, its all an adventure.
lol... If she want's to cuss, let her cuss. After all, no words are actually bad, they are just portrayed that way by people who are too stupid to think for themselves.
And the simplest and most brutal thing you ever have to do is become fully intimate with yourself for the first time. Nobody can do it for you, ever. That's commitment.
I don’t think that there is a dichotomy where commitment is concerned. As with many things in life, various people will fall on different places along the line. Some will live with a plan, always striving for future gains. Others will live more carefree and enjoy the daily fruits that come their way. Most will fall somewhere in between. It is interesting that you cite science in the video because the methodology within science is the commitment to actions now in order to create a new future.
I disagree. I think that commitment to a person means that you recognize that there will always be someone better out there but you feel that the person you're with is good enough to stand by regardless of who else might come along.
@jabop can you elaborate, cause I don't see how living in the moment, (ie... goal, action, result...new goal, action, result- repeat) is in anyway reckless. I cant help but thinking; if a gun was in my face, and I started thinking what would happen to my family and not actions towards bettering my situation (living in the moment), I'd be dead.
note: I know you cant hear my tone, so please don't take offense by the above, I speak non-condescending. I just like to hear new perspectives.
this is inspiring for me. I am plagued by commitment anxiety, a lot of times i am unable to decide on a commitment and end up doing noting. It seems to me that people that lead spontaneous and less forward committing lives are generally happier than others. I would love to have that prowess.
@ferociousLamm I have a similar problem. Last year, there was a long period of time when I didn't have a job. I had this really apathetic outlook that nobody was going to hire me, so it was just a waste of time to turn in job applications...Which is ridiculous, because of course nobody's going to hire me if I don't even make an attempt! But yeah, like you, I often have a difficult time committing, and end up doing nothing at all...
That applies only to the traditional conceptualization of linear space-time, Micki. In fact, past and future do not exist in linear space-time. They are merely mental projections.
In non-linear space-time, which 99% of people do not physically nor mentally perceive, you are physically both the relative past and future moment of a unique non-linear hyper-dimensional space-time line. And you can't avoid being physically in the future, nor can you avoid being formed of your past.
do you no how stupid you sound wait till you have a baby on one arm toast is burning the dog is barking at the front door your gas bill needs paying you dont get sex much any more cause your body has gone saggy.Commitment is a word you use when you havent got any and soon forgotten when you have
Kind of a second class idea. *shrug* Not too important. I feel like the idea of commitment is not the more important, but that what we do with the idea is. Like "Stay true. We only have this. Try and live your life to the fullest." would be better than basic commitment. Also, commitment could be wrong is some cases, like if your parents' ideals are wrong and you don't want to pass them on.
Commitment. I supose I know what you mean. I also like being in a relationship and just focus on the Here&Now. You don't stress up so much, right? But I also suppose that a time comes when you need to look far ahead and think 'where are things going'. 'Do I wanna keep going this way, or is there anything more sutable?'.
Right here, right now isn't all that exists. You SHOULD look at the future, and where you want to be in 'x' years. It is goals that give us drive to go out and DO.
@Reggis420 however something about what you wrote here seems a little oxymoronish, you speak of goals as if they're the sole things which drive, as you call it, "DO" is DOing, living in that future moment? I digress, she's not saying don't have goals, but you sit them ( 5 mins, more or less), and their often based on the experiences you've actively undergone. It's only when your living in the moment that you truly appreciate anything, to even have future aspiration for bigger and better things
@tewster Meh, I didn't say 'sole thing' . I don't see how what i said is in any way an oxymoron, and the rest of your comment is gibberish to me to be honest.
@Reggis420 I agree, it sounds like gibberish, lol. I was more trying to say, goals, at least to me, seem like >5% of any activity, ex: getting a glass of water, but its the actual "doing" of a task, which will give results. Now as for the actual 'doing,' most seem to go about doing things reluctantly and never seem to appreciate the progression of achieving said goals, seemingly contemplating the future and not the here and now, for the goal they previously set. but your right, goals give drive.

If an atheist kills millions of people, he must not have been an atheist. Because that would totally violate the atheist ethic. whatever that is....
