They used to play "Desiderata", the original (as ratchman says), on TV as a Public Service Announcement when I was a kid in the late '60's-early '70's in San Antonio, TX. The great guitar playing toward the end is Christopher Guest.
It's a parody of Desiderata, a poetic tome made popular in the late 60's. The original was written around the turn of the century I believe. For the life of me I don't remember why I know that. It wasn't a self help audio, it was just viewed as deep. But really pretty light. I've always loved the Lampoon parody... two wrongs don't make a right; but three do. Genius.
Seek out , there for, and find.... This is a parody of a serious Self Help audio version, from 1971 as I recall, I was not aware because I was born in 1966 and really not exposed outside of what the radio was playing
A little more background information...Deteriorata was written by Tony Hendra...Melissa Manchester was one of the background singers....
