Being someone who's heard this in person quite a few times, I LOVE the tri toms! I think it is a mistake to have quints and quads ramming everyone's eardrums to death, without some good 'ol low tris. It sounds awesome, and I love the BMB.
@sbon2 if you weren't an idiot you would know that a bass harness has j hooks flipped over on the bottom to hold the drum up, and hooks on the top so secure it. Rather than fabricating gaping holes in the uniform for them, we wear them outside the uniform.
I marched Tri's here in 2010. It's harder than you think. Our instructor writes some serious shit for them. and they are tuned lower than the quads so they add voicing to our sound. If you heard this in real life, rather than on a shitty camera, you would speak differently.
I marched with WMU at band day for six years. It was the coolest thing I ever did in my high school. (My school was tiny and didn't have a marching band.) I wish so much I could have gone to WMU and been a part of this band.
what happend to wmu they were awsome at the texas bowl back in january and their drumline was much larger iwas in the rice band that year the only black guy on the drumline
This was one of the last years when WMU could boast one of the largest drumlines in the country. So many students were auditioning for the line that the tri-toms were added early in the decade to provide some more depth and give more kids a chance to play. It was impressive how consistently clean the line was for its size. Since 2006, the line has shrunk back down to a comfortable size. The 2009 WMU Drumline marched 5 snares, 4 tenors, 4 tris, 5 basses, and 7 cymbals.
people need to learn how to tune there drums...and play them...they also had too many sextets and way too many tri"s...all they needed was about 4 quints and no tri:s ,,..lol my opinions.....unless they tuned them to sound good
we only have 2. we have 4 snares and 2 bases. (yeah, we used to have 4 but those 2 other losers quit -_-) i like your cadence though, i like the rim stick thing in the beginnning
pretty cool
^.^
:3
i wanna play the quads but for now, i'm stuck with snare
good lord! first was all, that was impressive, but second of all you have the biggest percussion and tuba section I have seen but then again, I'm only in high school...
hey i have played for a while and i never said that they sounded bad its just i wanted to know. my school has nvr used trios and i just didnt see the point ok thank you come again
Back in 2001 WMU marched 12 snares and I believe 6 quads and 8 basses and more and more people showed up to audition, and since the band doesn't cut anybody (unless they can't play worth nothing), they needed a way to expand, but not by putting more people on cymbals or snare, so they added the tri-toms. They're supposed to be a middle voice between the quads and basses. Weactually have the same number of trios as we do quads: 5 and 5. I hope that expains it a little.
That is nothing in 1998 my high school had the largest and best drumline ever we had 13 snares 10 cymbals 7 tenors and 12 basses six sizes but two per part
I used to watch marching bands and think 'how cool' now that i am in marching band (bass drum player) i have a whole new respect for the band. and i think, damn right you better LOVE us, it aint easy.
You guys have a seriously huge drumline. The beats aren't noteably clean, but I'm sure that having over 25 people in the drumline has something to do with that. We saw you guys at Ford Field and we were like, "Holy &^$*!" We'd never seen that many basses at one time.
ya'll sound awesome

Never seen a trio though. I've always loved the way the Quads sound though. Too bad i can't keep a rhythm to save my life.
