  • I don't understand what the purpose of having ham radio know how is, why would we want to do this ?

  • @myleszg The main purpose is for getting and resending infomation in different area's. Where all of this talk about S.H.T.F. or W.R.O.L. To see what is going on in the world sinces in the state of time where we would have no power to call out for help or watch the news on the TV. Then some just do and use a ham radio for hobby reason. Alot of your preppers have them as well.

  • yeah that is BAD ASS!!!

  • nice! i have seen lots of methods but thats the first launch by use of compressed air and a tennis ball filled with 23 pennys for me anyway. i need to get active again this makes me think of some of my younger radio days.

  • I surly need one of those. Some great places here in the Dakotas for that!

  • epic, a potato punter, melon mortar, or a good round of doge ball (using safety baseballs)

air pressure, we used combustion pressure. alcohol did the trick. pffffuuuuummmmppppp

  • Cool 'potato' launcher. Good dual team commentary explaining how it works. You are likely a very popular guy in the ham community in the Fall when it's time for low frequency antenna jobs. 73

  • :55

  • 0:18 -Can you shake it ? -yes yes!

    anyways, nice video.

  • Very cool. Hams RULE!!

  • Possible to share a plan of this - would make a great device, with some modification, to launch a pull line for network and coax cables in ceilings and in large warehouses - or for launching a monofil to pull a rope for tree cutting.

  • @rhblakeman look up sprinkler valve air cannon/gun attach a fishing rod and a tennis ball with a bolt through it and you're done.

  • lmao, i agree, hahahaha, he is pumping up his bicycle

  • I know what grandma is thinking at 0:59... "because these balls are launched by air pressure"...

  • hehehe I used a left over rocket from a box of fireworks to launch mine.

  • The anglers among us cast a line over the tree, but this is a great idea. It's all part of the fun of the hobby, and it's nice to see hams can still be inventive. Now if I just had a tree or two like that at the back of my house......

  • could you have made it any more complex? K.I.S.S.

  • I have made a simmular device, would you be interested in a way without using a foot pump or any kind of compressor. I also have plans...

  • It is a constant problem getting aerials over trees.

Do you have any plans of the device you could share ?regards

  • DON'T TOUCH HIS TRIGGER DARLIN'!!!

  • I've used a fishing pole with a little sinker to do that but this is much more convenient. you must send me the plans to make it. we got our field day in june.

    thanks and 73's

  • Awesome device you have there. I could sure use one of those here in the PNW with my 150 trees. I've tried bow and arrows, sling shots and slings to no effect over 40 feet. A couple arrows hanging in the trees now. ha! Thanks for a great idea. nz7b

  • very annoying

  • like whiners that can't find good in anything?

  • Very beautiful but not allowed in the luggage if you travel overseas.

    See the Singapore Sling:

    on youtube watch?v=4OVAutjN0_U

    keywords "Singapore Sling Antenna Launcher"

The audio is in German but you will understand it anyway.

  • We built a slingshot using bungee cords, kite string, and a tennis ball to do the same thing. This would've been a bit easier though. :)

  • Very cool.

  • Here in the PNW we have 150ft or higher Douglas Firs. My strategy is to use a wrist rocket and 4lb test line with one of those round lead sinkers. I shoot it into the top of the tree, not over it. Then the sinker falls down near the trunk. I pull through progressively larger line until I am up to nylon cord. A 160M dipole is pulled back up the tree and the feedline and bottom secured. The most killer antenna I have ever used on low bands. It is fed with ladder line so its multiband.

  • Sorry, that should read not 160M dipole, but instead the large Cobra that HRO sells. It resonates on 160M and as long as you use their feedline length, you get reasonable Z for a tuner on all bands.

  • I fill a 16 oz. plastic water bottle about halfway with water and attach a length of nylon parachute string below the cap. I find that you can get a really good arc when throwing the bottle from about 18 inches from the tie point attachment of the bottle. This baby will sail over the tree and has enough weight to come down through the branches with ease.

  • Great Video! Always glad to see our Antenna Launcher doing the job.

Plans for building these are on the web.

  • How about doing a step by step video on building the launcher please.

  • Hello I wish i had the plans to build such a launcher.

That is by far the best & {coolest} way i have seen yet to launch a dipole rope..

    ted n3zrx

  • I'll buy it! Where do I send my money?

  • I'm going to build a slingshot version--but this is brilliant. Have you tried a spud gun version of this?

  • You ever blast any taters with that thing...ii

  • What sort of antenna are you tying to that high in a tree?

  • multi band di-pole. It was put up later that day, after my camera had retired.

  • I need one of these! Randy

  • oh wow , that would be graet for field day.

  • THANKS & 73's

  • A 10' surf pole & 2oz sinker is better & less of a shocker... Run around with this & get arrested...

    How do I make one?

  • this actually has a practical purpose, if it is explained what it is used for in combintion with a ham license as credential , law enforcement should recognize that it not intended for wreckless endangerment

  • I want to know how to make one of these. KC5ECB Please look my email address up on qrz and get with me. Thanks Bill

  • It is a csv19 pneumatic antenna launcher. Google it.

It came as a kit, took over a week to assemble because epoxy had to dry between steps.
