@myleszg The main purpose is for getting and resending infomation in different area's. Where all of this talk about S.H.T.F. or W.R.O.L. To see what is going on in the world sinces in the state of time where we would have no power to call out for help or watch the news on the TV. Then some just do and use a ham radio for hobby reason. Alot of your preppers have them as well.
nice! i have seen lots of methods but thats the first launch by use of compressed air and a tennis ball filled with 23 pennys for me anyway. i need to get active again this makes me think of some of my younger radio days.
Cool 'potato' launcher. Good dual team commentary explaining how it works. You are likely a very popular guy in the ham community in the Fall when it's time for low frequency antenna jobs. 73
Possible to share a plan of this - would make a great device, with some modification, to launch a pull line for network and coax cables in ceilings and in large warehouses - or for launching a monofil to pull a rope for tree cutting.
The anglers among us cast a line over the tree, but this is a great idea. It's all part of the fun of the hobby, and it's nice to see hams can still be inventive. Now if I just had a tree or two like that at the back of my house......
I've used a fishing pole with a little sinker to do that but this is much more convenient. you must send me the plans to make it. we got our field day in june.
Awesome device you have there. I could sure use one of those here in the PNW with my 150 trees. I've tried bow and arrows, sling shots and slings to no effect over 40 feet. A couple arrows hanging in the trees now. ha! Thanks for a great idea. nz7b
Here in the PNW we have 150ft or higher Douglas Firs. My strategy is to use a wrist rocket and 4lb test line with one of those round lead sinkers. I shoot it into the top of the tree, not over it. Then the sinker falls down near the trunk. I pull through progressively larger line until I am up to nylon cord. A 160M dipole is pulled back up the tree and the feedline and bottom secured. The most killer antenna I have ever used on low bands. It is fed with ladder line so its multiband.
Sorry, that should read not 160M dipole, but instead the large Cobra that HRO sells. It resonates on 160M and as long as you use their feedline length, you get reasonable Z for a tuner on all bands.
I fill a 16 oz. plastic water bottle about halfway with water and attach a length of nylon parachute string below the cap. I find that you can get a really good arc when throwing the bottle from about 18 inches from the tie point attachment of the bottle. This baby will sail over the tree and has enough weight to come down through the branches with ease.
this actually has a practical purpose, if it is explained what it is used for in combintion with a ham license as credential , law enforcement should recognize that it not intended for wreckless endangerment
I don't understand what the purpose of having ham radio know how is, why would we want to do this ?

epic, a potato punter, melon mortar, or a good round of doge ball (using safety baseballs)

@rhblakeman look up sprinkler valve air cannon/gun attach a fishing rod and a tennis ball with a bolt through it and you're done.

Nice idea, unlike the clothing the guy's wearing. He looks like he's late for school.

I know what grandma is thinking at 0:59... "because these balls are launched by air pressure"...

hehehe I used a left over rocket from a box of fireworks to launch mine.

I have made a simmular device, would you be interested in a way without using a foot pump or any kind of compressor. I also have plans...

It is a constant problem getting aerials over trees.
Do you have any plans of the device you could share ?regards

See the Singapore Sling:

keywords "Singapore Sling Antenna Launcher"
The audio is in German but you will understand it anyway.

We built a slingshot using bungee cords, kite string, and a tennis ball to do the same thing. This would've been a bit easier though. :)

That is by far the best & {coolest} way i have seen yet to launch a dipole rope..

It is a csv19 pneumatic antenna launcher. Google it.
It came as a kit, took over a week to assemble because epoxy had to dry between steps.
