Classic. Absolutely incredible. Most will never know just how incredibly difficult this music is to sing. No instruments. Tight tight tight! LIVE. SICK!!!! Loved these guys!
Mervyn, where O where have you been my brother!! I heard his classic - 'Endure', and it brought back memories of him been w/this group - these guys are the reason for me understanding harmony, measure, vocal tricks and the like...I am indebted to them for real! Thanks for the best 30 years of my musical / singing career!
I miss VOCALS! I'm mature so I can sit and watch a REAL SINGER WITH WORDS COMING OUT OF THEIR MOUTHS stand and sing. I don't need a package of dancing and gimmicks. I miss the days of people singing from their own mouths and having different areas of vocal capability.
In light of what happened in Tucson, Arizona yesterday, as well as the political rhetoric that ensued as a result...is it any surprise that these lyrics are just as relevant now as they were back in the early 90's when this song first came out? I thought of this song, and came to this one conclusion...we need you, Lord. Please help us.
I remember distinctly the very 1st time I heard this group. They were singing this song at the 1988 Grammy Awards. This may be that performance. I am not sure. I remember seeing Stevie Wonder up front as I see him now. Here we are now in late 2009, more than 20 years later. And I still feel the same. IMHO, Take 6 is absolutely the best a capella jazz vocal group in history.
Yea they should come back with a Take 7 album. That would be sick. All acappella, no music. They started losing me with the later albums and the music.
Could anyone think of a better group of individual singers that could be comprised to make a group like this? Just think of it...4 guys singing in the restroom and another guy walks in and adds a 5th part...only later to add another incredible voice? This was God-ordained! What a group.
The combined performance with the Winans family that came after this song at the '89 Grammy's was out of this world! "Used to be lost couldn't find my way, but the Lord showed me a better way, He restored me..."
