If you listen to the demos to this, this was definitely recorded in 1982 (NOT 1987). According to reports, Quincy Jones fought over this version. He and MJ agreed to cut the song in parts.

@ninenine909 This is the original version. Back then there were no CD's and a record album couldn't hold much time. The average album was 30-45 minutes. So both 'Billie Jean' and 'The Lady In My Life' were edited to shorter versions to fit on the album. The long version of 'Billie Jean' was released on a maxi single at the time (1982). If you bought the Thriller album when it was 1st released, it had the lyrics to the pre-cut versions of the two songs above.
