Crivens! You can find anything on YouTube! I just typed "Fry & Laurie Restaurant" in and it took me straight to this that made me laugh all those years ago! Amazing!
This sketch works because there are people out there like this! (but it's obviously a bit exaggerated!)
Anyone who has ever worked in a restaurant will appreciate the humour here - you can advertise the entire menu in English and some snotty wanker will still order "the moules". Yes we call them 'mussels' here.
@Craplatte lol, I should mention that I love your username btw! I get those regularly when I go out... even though I'm sure I've never actually ordered one...
@icequeen9 If i knew that it were Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, i'd probably kiss their feet and ask them to make me their slave :-)
Thanks for the compliment btw., but i should mention that it doesn't refer to the coffee latte, but to the german word "Latte", which means "crossbar" or "picket", along with some other rather naughty translations :-) But crap still means crap... don't ask why i picked that combination, i'm not sure that my english is good enough for a plausible translation :-)
Mazasan, Hugh says; 'I'm rather desperate for a pee'. - The word 'Pee' is simply a slang word for urinating. Since it sounds the same as pea as in the vegetable pea, the waitress puts a single pea on the table.
Oh, dear! Perhaps I didn't make myself absoLUTEly clear. When I said you may GO OUT with my son, I didn't mean you may COME IN with him. Yet I find you here in my house, lounging upon my sofa. GOING OUT is not the same thing as COMING IN - do you see? So you may leave now, and perhaps you would be good enough to remember that next time. Thank you!
I have seen this so many time now, counting fast in my head, it must be around 20 times. And still, I found it entertaining and funny. Tragic people in TV and Movies are always funny, but not in reality though.
"We do tape all our conversations."
"Get out the pair of you, you snaughty wankers."
"Oh no, that was the restaurant we were on yesterday."
Fry and Laurie are brilliant when it comes to comedy, but also when it comes to other things...
Who played the waitress? She was one of the few guest stars (after Deborah Norton's rip-roaring turn in Series 1) who worked very well in Fry & Laurie.
All the way through the vid I was trying to remember where I'd seen her. Then I had a vague memory of a series about bin-collection men, starring Edward Woodward. So I looked him up on Imdb and found the name amongst his credits - "Common as Muck". The cast list for that series had several females listed, but only one had a credit for Fry & Laurie on her imdb profile. So that must be her - Nimmy March. Her biog says she was adopted by the Duke and Duchess of Richmond.
yes , well it the usa we're rife with bad-mannered and rude customers and waitresses. there have been dates that ive gone on and not been able to eat my meal because my date was completely belligerent to the waitress over nonsense such as not placing half of the straw paper over the top of her straw. I cant imagine what the kitchen did to our food.
This is just like Jeeves & Wooster!

food critic 1: You don't mean we'll have to cook for ourselves?
