  • Jeep tj all the way

  • I do have an fj cruiser unmodified and it is very capable 4x4, also got an LR modified and i been beating her for the last 4 years and shes been a solid truck very dependable and still gets 16 mpg with 35" pit bulls..... What I hate about the fj cruiser: Front independent suspenssion.... What I hate about the LR: Plastic bumpers...I hate about jeeps: they break down too much, even modified.. Alternators, starters, clutch, radiators, axle snap almost every time u takem off road, suspenssion fail.

  • Toyotas and land rovers were made to travel the glove......

  • HahAhahah Get A toyotaaaaaa Or Land Roverrrr LMAOO

  • FJ Cruiser? WTF. If you would have said FJ40 I could respect that. But yeah, YJ is better then a cruiser for sure.

  • @webdesign212 Apparently you've never driven the FJ Cruiser offroad.

  • @Offroadersdotcom

I owned a 2008 FJ cruiser. You can see it in my videos if you want. I know own two jeeps (YJ and a JK) and a FJ40. I will admit its cool that the cruiser came with a locker, but the weak frame and independent suspension n the front is its down falls. Reinforce the frame, swap in a solid axle, beef up the rear axle and it would be a good rig to hand with the jeeps for sure.

  • @webdesign212 I have a 2010 FJ. Also have a 1978 CJ-7 that I built frame up. The CJ would have been a FJ 40 if the FJ40's were not to expensive to build. My FJ does fantastic on the mountain trails of PA and far more reliable than my CJ or the YJ's I've wheeled with. I'd love to see a solid axle in the FJ too but it is what it is and that's my only complaint about the FJ. No frame issues with mine. Toyota apparently addressed the frame issues in the earlier models.

  • someone needs an msd ignition, or new start or battery. theres no way in hell id trust that thing.

  • @09adge13 Yeah, you're wrong.

  • LOL maybe the crap 350 should be taken out and the 4.0 put back in, I'm pretty sure the grinding and clanking of the 4.0 would have been eliminated for sure =\

  • @v7nf goodbye v7nf. Too bad you couldn't offer any kind of a legitimate opinion to the conversation.

  • lazy owner.

  • take a straight axel yj cj xj over pot metal half shaft jap crap any day of the week!

  • Did you build up the axles or are they stock? Too much bounce at the top! Gotta love jeeps!

  • This jeep is off roading and breaks a drivetrain part. Now some of you think there is an inherent problem with Jeep's! Obviously you havn't done much 4-wheeling. Things break off road, its life and if you think Toyota's don't break, your wrong. Toyota got its start by copying American autos. Toyota even used dana spicer drive trains that were made in the USA. They used the same axles used in Jeeps. This is a YJ a 15yo rig and your comparing it to a 3yo FJ? I would like to see a 15yo FJ off road

  • ya fj's are for fucking queers

    you homo

  • FJs are soccer mom POS's . For you who dont already know Fun Fact: F.J. initially stood for Foreign Jeep when the original FJ-40 Land Cruiser came out.. Dont believe me? look it up Toyota always wanted to be Jeep Ha!

  • Yep, and now Jeep is once again being sold to another company to become who knows what again. Meanwhile Toyota is a stable, profitable company producing the safest, most reliable vehicles on the plant.

  • @bullpuky yup safe. atleast this was true up until they started recalling most of their cars due to them getting people killed...and Mr. Toyota having to speak in front of the Supreme Court to explain.

but yah, they are totally safe (well..most of them)

  • By the way you are not correct on what FJ stands for. The J does stand for Jeep but rather "jeep" (lowercase) a general descriptive term before there was a trademarked name Jeep brand. It dates back to the Korean War when the US army needed a better vehicle for moving armed forces around the Korean Peninsula. The Armed forces didn't think the existing "GEneral Purpose" vehicles GEP or jeep as it was pronounced would cut it in this terrain. F: engine type, F=gas B=diesel J: body style i.e. jeep

  • The Army sought updated vehicles, and it wanted them produced as close as possible to the peninsula. So it went to Toyota with blueprints to the venerable and combat-proven Willys Jeep and worked with the Japanese company on changes needed to meet the challenges in Korea. These changes included the need for a slightly longer wheelbase, a slightly more compliant suspension, and a more powerful engine than the four cylinder motor in the WWII jeep.

  • You are trying to say the US army contracted the Original BJ-or Fj-40? built by toyota? So what they dumped it and gave it to the Japs? Makes no sense and is crap.. Willys Overland was using the jeep name in 1946. The original toyota Bj was not around until 53' Wrong about the copyright. The willys platform change 'Korea" timeframe was the M151 Ford Mutt, . Toyota took a willys made it heavier, wider, gave it 6 cylinders ,10 inches of wheelbase, and called it a land cruiser.

  • So what's your point? Who really gives a shit anyway? Have you ever driven or crawled under and looked at a FJ Cruiser?

  • it was the rear dana 35 the are complete crap! the C-clip breaks all the time you cant got above a 32" tire without the worry of snapping it. the were junk! the Dana 30 was much stronger and better than the 35

  • @rimjock81

Name a jeep sized vehicle that dosent need an axle upgrade. I dont think any of them came with dana 60s.

The rubicon and now all the JKs come with a dana 44 in the rear, wich is a pretty good axle. I am still upgrading my 44 to a 60.

  • wait wait wait, Yes it def did some damage and broke something. but wait what is that? The Jeep drove away. Dana 30s handled the AMC 304 V8 just fine. I am sure the 35 can deal with a 350. Ill bet that terrain broken that axle more so than that engine. Beside. its what 4 wheeling is about. break it build it better. Its the adventure that counts, and the stories to tell.

  • well i think the fjs are weak.this jeep with an s.o.a on it can clearly outflex and out bogg the fj anyday Especially wit a 350 under the hood. i could make in up that hill in mine in 2wd

  • What good is flex if you snap an axle shaft? A 350 turning Dana 35 axles will twist them like a pretzel. Such as what you see here.

  • I got a dana 35 and a chevy 350 with 33s and its doing great why fix something thats not broken I will go to the ford 8.8 when it breaks

  • toss that holly carb in the trash!

  • Trade in for an FJ? IDIOT! I would challange any FJ against my YJ on anything if it wouldnt be for the shame of being seen on a trail with one. And who tought you how to drive anyway? Jeeps are made to crawl, their not a sand buggy. We don't want you representing jeeps anyway dumbass!

  • @10thanvrx7 Idiot? He doesn't worry about breaking his ride anymore and has much more fun. The idiot would sink a fortune into a YJ and swap out everything but the frame and body. The smart guy would 1) Buy a new JK or FJ, or 2) Start a build with a good platform like a coil sprung TJ Rubicon. Definitely not a YJ. If you have a thing for leaf sprung 4x4's, build a CJ. At least they have that classic body style, round headlight look.

  • @Offroadersdotcom dare to be different

  • @Offroadersdotcom or instead of spending 17.000 to 20.00 grand on a new 4x4 u could buy more durable axles for a fraction of the cost and not worry about them snaping

  • @CoDkiller1011 What about all the other problems? Anyone in their right mind isn't going to commute in something like this. Time to buy something reliable.

  • @Offroadersdotcom ok stick with a newer YJ or CJ in better condition invest more money into axles instead of buying a FJ thats stupid those things r fucking huge gay and over-priced and their FJs r for faggots and JKs r just over priced stick with a real 4x4 a jeep

  • @CoDkiller1011 So what do you drive? Oh, that's right, you're 19 and you don't have any money to buy anything reliable or high tech. So of course you hate the new JK and the big fat FJ, which btw is narrower and shorter than the JK. Until you own a few 4x4s, wheeled a few good years, you don't know shit little boy. Now go play with your XBox.

  • @bullpuky first of all i owned a 94 YJ and i did go wheelin and im 20 yo and as iv stated FJ r for FAGGOTS just check the comments list that proves and if go wheelin in somthing that cost $33.000 ur a fucking monkey-ass like i said a REAL 4x4 and yes i do play XBOX so go fuck ur self FAG

  • @CoDkiller1011 You're not doing much to make a case for what defines a "real 4x4". Not that I'd expect you to be able to make a case for anything since you can't type with any level of intelligence above a 4th grader. You're just good at using the word faggot (at least you think you are).

  • @Offroadersdotcom my yj has been the most reliable car ive owned at 215xxx miles and not a problem in sight.. sounds like a pretty reliable vehicle to me. to tell you the truth every since chrysler revised the amc 4.0. jeep suck. my father owns a 2003 tj with 70xxx miles and its already has a blown rear main seal, its been in the garage for repairs more then it has been on the road.

  • @tmaxxmonster2 I'm not saying the YJ is not reliable. Especially if it has the 4.2 L AMC 258 I6. It's just not a good stock drive train to install 35" mud tires on and then proceed to beat the shit out of it. But overall the YJ was a good solid Jeep in it's stock form.

  • @Offroadersdotcom yea, i will agree. no vehicle was intended to slam 35" under it an then proceed to beat the shit out of it. all vehicles need to be worked on to get to that stage some more then others

  • @tmaxxmonster2 The 4.0l is probably one of the most reliable engines ever made! The only gas engine I have seen with more miles without a rebuild is a Ford 300 I6. And then, the only reason the 300 is more reliable is that is has timing gears, not a chain.

  • You mean to tell me that stock anything on an FJ could handle a chevy V8? Clearly you don't know what you're talking about. The owner was an idiot for thinking that combination of upgrades and stock parts was sufficient.

  • If he spent "thousands" on that YJ it was in the wrong areas. Could have upgraded the axles for less than that. FJ's are nice, but dont compare off-road for something with solid front and rear axles.

  • omg! a 350 and a dana 35....i thought me having a 4banger and 35's om a D35 was bad!!

  • ok so you break a shaft, oh no time to sell, god i hate that, and buy an fj cruiser what a down grade, why didnt he fix it....?

  • Wasn't a shaft, not sure what it was. Bottom line he has been breaking things for a couple years now & sunk thousands into upgrades. In the end the V8 was too much for the stock crap YJ axles. So he bought a FJ Cruiser. Down grade? have you checked out the FJ? Wheel that against a YJ.

  • Yeah take an 80-mid 90s jeep, and compare it to a brand new off roading machine, with all the technology to boot. Do just a little bit of work to that Jeep, and I'll tell you right now, the YJ is going to be pulling out the FJ.

  • Little bit of work, you mean like a $3000 dollar axle swap?

  • You'd be suprised at what Jeeps can do. I've Seen a completely stock 92 wrangler pull out an FJ before.

  • @PowershifterWhore I've done the exact opposite on several occasions.

  • Yeah, that's about what the Jeep YJ needs. Especially when you put a V8 under the hood.

  • are you kidding me? what are you gona put in it a dana 60 lol

i'm gona make a guess and say you don't do your own work, can't weld, use a torch, or a sawzall

  • @Offroadersdotcom major downgrade indeed. That YJ had a 350 and lockers, how could a FJ beat it?? I've done way better than FJ's with my open diffs. Seems to me its a driver problem not a YJ problem.

  • @talus33 No, that YJ was poorly built. Very unreliable and it broke every time it was wheeled. On the other hand, the FJ that replaced it has been wheeled hard for the past few years, does great offroad and never breaks, never had a problem. Pack and go, wheel hard, drive it home. What's wrong with that? Let me tell you something. I own both a 2010 FJ and a 1978 CJ-7 rock beast. I love both of them. Both have their place. When you travel deep into the wilderness, you take what is reliable.

  • We'll never know. He sold it. (He told the buyer about the noise)

  • Sounds like he took it out of 4 wheel drive then put it back in..and didn't let it set..and boom transfer case. no more 4wheel for this one.

  • oo...it sounds like a transfer case failure to me..maybe broken ring and pinion..am i right?
