Now, this is Martial Art. none of that fancy spinning 360 spinning double flip back kick crap that dominates the world now. Hardening the Soul, Spirit, and Mind into one Solid Being.
Komapsamnida,, for posting this,, nice to see. I tested for my Cho Dan at the Seoul Dojang,, My Sabum was C.S. Kim,, but tested under Sabum Kang Uk Lee with GM Hwang Kee looking on,, my BB # 13923.. early 1970..
As someone who has practiced ITF Taekwon-Do for a number of years when I was younger, it's amazing to see this kind of footage and realize that there really is a common origin to the majority of the Korean Martial Arts.
Amazing footage, I feel honored just to get a chance to see the masters back in the day! Thanks for posting this, I hope it survives well into the future so our children can see where the art began!
@teachur my father achieved dan in 62 most training w jc shin, but also cs kim, ki yun yi and hapkido under bong soo Han, he returned several times twice to osan n once to kunsan. His dan number is 5845 William Clingan. I'll set up a yt account for him.
@teachur u may know my father he was at osan from 62-63 again in the late 60's and then kunsan 70-71. He achieved dan in 62 #5845. Gm William Clingan he trained under JC Shin mostly but also CS Kim, Ki Yun Yi and others, he still trains and teaches but is rarely on YouTube, I will set up an acct. For him
Many thanks for sharing this bit of history with the world. I can't tell you how much I value the information contained in this video, both in terms of what it tells us (and confirms, for the younger generations) about both history and technique.
Great film of the old days in Korea. I trained there from 1966 to 1969, mostly under GM Shin. My Dan # is 12187, given in 1968. Had the great honor of meeting GM Hwang Kee and his son several times and training with them. Would some of you other oldtimers please identify yourselves if comfortable with that? I'm GM Chuck Blackburn and trained mainly with GM Shin Jae Chul. Also made a 2nd Dan in TKD in '68 at Camp Casey. Write me at spiritualma@gmail.com
SBN Segarra - Thank you very much for putting this together and sharing it publically. This really brings me back to the times that the few have forgotten, and the many will never know. Even a simple think like bowing in to class has been changed through the years. I need to write it again, this truly brings me back. 감사합니다
@chinguidinsky unfortunately this is tang soo do moo duk kwan not tae Kwon do, only a very small amount of tkd mdk still exist good luck finding a school, but u would have better chances finding a tsd school or a soo bahk do school.
This is what Tae kwon do people should be showing to advertise the martial art. All we normal people see is bullshit olympic competitions with pads on, just the sport side. This is what i've been looking for, TKD as a martial art, the part where he is fighting against 2 guys the finger conditioning etc. Seeing this i am more attracted to TKD than just competitions.

This is the real thing. This is Martial Art.....no pads, chin guard, or any protector, you are alone with your empty hands

It is wonderful to see Grand Master Hwang Khee! Notice the true do baks, all white with midnight blue belts and trim.
