Teddyb1939 All is forgiven....please please come to Ireland..after 1000 years we have all finally managed to sort the bollocks out....the scots, ulsterman, english, welsh and people from the republic...we all live in a place Yahoo calls UK & Ireland...that,s us...look up Music Events Ireland or Scotland ...and for fecks sake come and spend your money...no more terrrirists only tourourists....but see Sinead O Conner sing Foggy Dew just for its music ..the Huns bit is just history now ...
Beautiful Ronnie is magic. I am a true Englishman & I read many comments on you tube that are a bit hurtful. I will only shout from the roof tops, I love Ronnie Drew, Luke Kelly, Barney,John Paddy,Sean & all the others that have been part of this great institution of the Dubliners.I also love John McCormack. Paul Brady,Van Morrison. Mary Duff Mary Black I would love to visit Ireland but would I be welcome ? The country looks lovely on film & I will visit one day.
there's really no point in comparing the two as they had very individual ways of telling a story singing a song. I hesitated a long time before finally going to the Dubliners first post Luke concert in Düsseldorf in 1984 and was moved to tears at Ronnie's tribute to Luke as he sang The Town I Loved So well. I always thought only Luke could sing this song but that night Ronnie gave us his version which was a magnificent tribute to Luke. brosnaboy
you should hear the guy who wrote this song sing it..his name was Aiden Forde. a true master of music sadly he is no longer with us..if i can get a copy of the one cd he made i'll upload it.
Even if you are only 16 , it does me good to know that even the you ones respect Ronnie Drew. I had the pleasure of meeting him several times. And I think he was A GENTLEman. If you only try to be like him you will be a beautifuel person.
Oh my gosh, I've honestly been looking for "Sands of Sudan" for five years!!! My ex-g/f's dad let me borrow '30 Years A'Greyin' once, but I haven't been able to get my hands on a copy since (short of paying too much to import the album).
It's such a gorgeous tune (if you can indeed use such a word with any of Ronnie Drew's songs!). I've spent a lot of time with Sudanese refugees in my work, so I feel particularly moved by the words.
Thank you *very* much dubliner85, I really do appreciate it.
Is this song in a TV commercial to ask for donations? It would do a good motivation. Except I think a corporate TV channel would not like the realistic words "West's profit and gain."
Of course, Ronnie is a legend and you would know I feel that way if you had watched my comments on my other vids. All I was saying is that I often think about how great a song would be, sung by the great Luke Kelly.
My father met Ronnie Drew in a pub.
He brags about it to me every day.

This song along with Ronnie's angelic voice made me tear up.. :'o[
I am but a child of 16,
But wish I could have been old enough to have met Ronnie.
He touch mine, asong with many other lives.
Long live the voice of the man I aspire to be like.
RIP Ronnie Drew,
God only takes the good ones.

If a prediction can be made from the way you speak, You will be much like him.
"And if you have a god, whichever it may be, may he or she go with you." -Dave Allen (another man who reminds of Ronnie)

Oh man, I'd love to hear Luke sing this. It suits Ronnie well enough but Luke would make this absolutely beautiful.

Yeah I agree completely. But then again, that's what I think about pretty much any song I hear...

Well I think Ronnie Drew deserves his recognition, don't you?
