the reason gas prices went up it because they shut the oil off remember at the beginning of the war the media showing the burning oil fields saddam had huge war debts and was pumping out mad oil so prices were down bout 1.49 national average but as soon as we went into iraq the prices went to about 2.00 and has kept rising since because the supplys are lower without iraq (which sits on about 1/5 of the worlds oil) pumping it out.
