@Bub820 Hardly. It's power is similar to the PS2 (actually, at similar word size, the PS2 clocked faster & had more RAM = more power), which is logical as they were contemporaries. Accessories were broadly similar as well. Only real differences were 4 built in control ports (overkill anyway) vs 2, and of course exclusive titles and the branding.
For reference, of that generation, the PS2 is the only one still manufactured and selling units. That says a lot.

The Windows CE thing meant that games could be written against Windows CE, which would be included on the game's disk, and ideally make development easier. The only game I know of that did this was Starlancer.

Undervalued is right! I got two Dreamcast's for £50! And that included games like , Sonic Adventure 2 and Crazy Taxi. Amazing. One missing power cord, but... horray for standard figure-8 power cords.
In just a few short weeks, I proudly hooked up my Dreamcast alongside my Wii and PS3. =D

I own a dreamcast but I will say most of the games for it really sucked. There were some solid gold games like Project justice and soul calibur. and crazy taxi but for every winner there are 15 shitty ones. Also the dreamcast controller was just poor for fighting games.

As for the controller being poor for fighting games, I've not used any controller that's good for fighting games, they're all crap compared to arcade sticks, which were available for the Dreamcast as well of course.
@MrZeldaootfan Well... we can tell who was raised on the Gamecube. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was the Gamecube version. The original Dreamcast version (much more challenging and better) is simply Sonic Adventure 2.
Speaking of failure ports, I adored Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast! To this day, it holds up as one of my favourite RPGs ever. Sadly, it had a Gamecube port... I'm going to spare you my frustration and despair about that.
@Theatricasualty Sonic Adventure 2 is not "much more challenging and better" on the DC. It's the same exact game, with slightly inferior visuals and a few less modes. Nothing more, nothing less. Only nostalgia clouds your judgement about that, and the same is true of Skies of Arcadia (which was a more significant improvement on the original). Instead of saying that its "sad" a great game was ported to a much better console, be glad it got a wider audience than the niche who bought DC.
@EkajTheSwordsman Haha. SoA, you may be right about that. I just adore the aspect of the use of the VMU (beeps when you get close to Chams, Cupil's reactions to surroundings and health, or Pinta's Quest). Small, but valuable absences, atleast to me.
In the GC version of Sonic Adventure 2. End of stage Ranking requirements were tweaked to be easier to attain a higher rank. The characters in Co-op mode had to be unlocked in the DC version. A few other difficulty changes were made as well.

I can understand why those little touches meant a lot to you, but at the end of the day; I think the few hours of additional content in Legends make up for it. Regarding SA2, I never noticed that the ranking system in Battle was made easier. I'm sure you're right about that, but its probably not worth too much frustration. lol I have a Dreamcast and a PS2 Slim right next to each other. I like the Dreamcast, and it definitely has one of the best plug-and-play light gun selections. I don't have to get an army of wires to play a Dreamcast light gun game.
i disagree with dreamcast reliability because i've never actually owned a reliable dreamcast. and i've had a new 1 and a used one. but i'd have to say gettin a new 1 is the most riliable of the 2 because of the used 1s after years of use tend to rest in the middle of game play and sometimes wont turn on or stay on. idk if any of you have experienced that but all 3 of my dreamcasts did that after years of usage. but its stil either way fav home console ever made.

Although I loved my 3 Dreamcasts to bits, they were not that reliable, hence why I had 3.. My 1st one died on me within 2 months, the second within 6 months but the 3rd went strong for the two years I owned it. But for pure gaming enjoyment they were amazing! games like Shenmue, Crazy Taxi, V tennis, Dead or Alive 2, Zombie revenge and Space channel 5 brought me so many happy memories and for that reason the Dreamcast will always remain a favourite games console of mine.

Just one used at the Game Exchange store. Got it for $20 with 2 controllers and a memory card, all for a low price. Also I bought 5 games for it but Mortal Kombat Hold didn't work. Upset about that. But the other games work fine and that's all good. Another console to my collection.

Just yesterday ordered A DC with 2 controllers, 2 VMUs, A Vibration Pack, Shenmue, Sonic Adventure, Soulcalibur, Sega Rally 2, Skies of Arcadia, House of the Dead 2 with a Lightgun and I think that was all for £150, it's a lot of money but I think it's gonna be worth it!

Sega Dreamcast was before its time. the memmory card was fuckin redicilous. I mean their r NO memmory cards like that now at days. and Sega knew that they were eventually not gonna sell so they decided to make one last great system. and they sold out to Nintendo eventually. and they wanted to make more money. And during the early 2000's they made Sonic games for Nintendo systems. And they still do today. Sega ended up being a important part of video game history.
Going to getnone next weekend. Can't wait. I hope they have it for like $30 so I can buy more Dreamcast games and memory cards. And maybe another old console. I'm thinking either the playstation 1 or the original Xbox. So hard to choose.

honestly the main reason playstation 2 did good is DVD Player in which us people got sucked into it and in my opinion ps2 is so fucking overated and if wasnt for nintendo and sega ressurecting the video game industry in the middle 80s and the golden age of video games in the early and middle 90s you may not even have your xboxes and gaystation 2

Although I loved my 3 Dreamcasts to bits, they were not that reliable, hence why I had 3.. My 1st one died on me within 2 months, the second within 6 months but the 3rd went strong for the two years I owned it. But for pure gaming enjoyment they were amazing! games like Shenmue, Crazy Taxi, V tennis, Dead or Alive 2, Zombie revenge and Space channel 5 brought me so many happy memories and for that reason the Dreamcast will always remain a favourite games console of mine.

Just one used at the Game Exchange store. Got it for $20 with 2 controllers and a memory card, all for a low price. Also I bought 5 games for it but Mortal Kombat Hold didn't work. Upset about that. But the other games work fine and that's all good. Another console to my collection.

Just yesterday ordered A DC with 2 controllers, 2 VMUs, A Vibration Pack, Shenmue, Sonic Adventure, Soulcalibur, Sega Rally 2, Skies of Arcadia, House of the Dead 2 with a Lightgun and I think that was all for £150, it's a lot of money but I think it's gonna be worth it!

Sega Dreamcast was before its time. the memmory card was fuckin redicilous. I mean their r NO memmory cards like that now at days. and Sega knew that they were eventually not gonna sell so they decided to make one last great system. and they sold out to Nintendo eventually. and they wanted to make more money. And during the early 2000's they made Sonic games for Nintendo systems. And they still do today. Sega ended up being a important part of video game history.
