I've used both phones (and own the Desire S) and there's no doubt the Galaxy S II is a performer. However, I prefer the Desire S because it's a much nicer build quality and HTCs UI is in my opinion nicer.

The reason for the comparison was to show people that it would be neccessary for them to buy a dual core cpu and show the difference between THOSE 2 PHONES.

The reviewer knows usual more than those who comment, so do not act like he would not know that the S2 is faster, because of the dual core! You should appreciate the video instead.

I have been reading a lot of comments about these phones but I can't understand why people are insulting a phone as though it had just shot their mother, it's not as though the phone's feelings will be hurt, what's the point? I wanted either of these when I was buying a phone last week but the app reviewers on the Android Market kept complaining that so many apps didn't work on the S2 yet were fine on the Desire S, on the surface the S2 seemed the better phone but at £400 compared to the £300 Desire S I reckoned it not to be £100 better than the Desire S. The equation to me was, The Galaxy S2 = Desire S + 35 pints of beer, so I opted for the Desire S and it is a seriously good phone, very impressed.

this review dosn't make sense. Samsung Galaxy S2 has a 1.2GHz DUAL CORE processor, whereas the HTC Desire S has a 1HGz SINGLE CORE processor. Try to compare it with the HTC Sensation, then we'll see the difference...

I have a question. Someone once told me that Samsung phones aren't that time resistant. I have the posibility of buying the SGS2(since it's somewhat expensive) but since both these phones are almost neck-in-neck in terms of performance, which one would be better for long-term use? As in not needing to buy a new phone after a few years of usage. My previous phone lasted 5 years. My mother's lasted more. So, I ask you which one would you recomend?

@diannaa htc for sure but be careful when buying the hi-end models as they tend to need charging most of the time, that goes the same for every other brand of smartphones on the market, take your time, do some research, find out which phone suits your needs or pleasures, in my opinion I'd recommend the desire s, it's currently the best hi-end smartphone with a way better battery life than the iphone, come to think of it, all htc phones have a better battery life than the iphone(s) :D

I don't think that the S2 is a phone I'm saying that because I work at comet and I have the S2 just to show off to my colleagues at work how powerful the S2 is I compare the web browser performance of both the galaxys2 and the ipad2 .

first I did with wifi on both and the galaxy s2 made the ipad2 look like rubbish

and then I put the ipad2 on wifi and the S2 on mobile network T-Mobile which is shit and still the S2 still beats the ipad2 on 4 different websites.

so like I sad S2 is not a phone

I have this phone, and for the first time earlier i used the internet without wifi, outdoors - well i was in a hospital actually but anyway - can you tell me how fast should the speed be? It obviously isn't as fast as using wifi.. but this is the 1st phone i've had with full internet so i dont know if its fast or slow.... and is there anything to help speed it up? Eg. different browsers on the market
