  • Too much reverb on this remix.

  • karen singing paul williams... does it get any better??? <3

  • I have Carpenter's fever- can't stop myself listen to Karen singing.

  • I wish you and I where married I would have saved you

  • who are the 2 douches that disliked this ?

  • she's the best

  • and i actually she and Richard in Vegas in 1976 after their concert........she was such a lady....

  • let me tell you she was the best voice ever and i've heard many.......take your Streisand's and Diana Ross's but this girl had the most unique voice ever.....too bad she went so soon.....

  • I got to see the Carpenters four times in Las Vegas at the Riviera Hotel in 73 and 74; I had never heard any voice as beautiful as hers, and I doubt that I ever will. Not to mention Richard, with perfect arrangements and at the end of one midnight performance, a rendition of a piece called the Warsaw Concerto. What a Voice, but what a Team!!

  • Her voice is truly missed, so sad. She was THE voice of the 70's.

  • Beautiful song

  • Like all of Karen's work leads, her performance is perfect.

  • I think I know what I am going to ask for in regards to a Christmas present...the complete Carpenters collection!

  • Yes this was one of my favorites from the boxed set. I loved the instrumental ending to this working track - actually this version has just a slight bit more edge all the way through I thought. Hard to say if this should have been the 1st single with the album release vs "Rainy Days" - or why they just didn't release this track from the Tan album too. So amazing!

  • I.m 55 and haven't heard any better voice

  • there is a two ox

  • V O I C E!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember my older sister who was like 13 years old baking cookies on a rainy Saturday and she comforted me because we couldn't go the park. I have many fond memories like these, but the Carpenters music was always in the background.

  • How the F--k could you dislike this??

  • Where is this recording from? It differs from the LP version.

  • @Rudy61287 It is available on their box set, From the Top

  • How I loved Karen's Bittersweet voice, it was so different and so beautiful.......

  • i love her voice so much.

  • I loved every song Karen did. miss you!

  • I loved every song she did. miss you!

  • Love this song and Karen's voice, pure perfection. Miss you Karen.

  • Who the fuck disliked this song?! Who dislikes one of the best damn voices in history?! Oh my god they have to be mentally insane

  • @RetardedShit1- Correction: The greatest voice in history.

  • @Raughwe

    I stand corrected

  • @RetardedShit1 Oh I'm sure they just disliked it because the song wasn't longer and Karen wasn't here.

  • @bsbncandey

    BLASPHEMY! Karen 4ever

  • @RetardedShit1 I will agree with the dislikes only because I wanted more Karen and this song is too short, when I first heard it on cd and didn't know the length, I was like WTF? The world needs more of Richard's greatness and Karen's voice and their simplicity of music.

  • I .......would like to beg your indulgence here. I KNOW....you would not be here...except for HER. CAN I just say that in 1983.....the music world did NOT lose a singer. The WHOLE WORLD lost a woman...........who had a voice that was ONE IN A MILLION. She will never be duplicated, nor equaled....she is JUST KAREN. I know you loved her....as did I. Probably the greatest female singing voice EVER. I love you Karen.

  • One of my best by Karen

  • Une pensée vers toi Karen si jolie.

  • Brilliant

  • Hippy music is great.

  • I love Karen's voice!! I remember hearing her voice in my house growing up. Her music will live on forever!!

  • Superb music, wonderful interpretation! Missing her in Brazil.

  • Karen and I were born on the same day, I am sorry we never met. Love you Karen,

  • What agreat harmony her and her brother had together and what apowerfull voice sha has gone way to early from us music for all times

  • Simply wonderful!!! Applause and admiraton from Brazil.

  • As a teen, I was too cool to admit how much in love I was with Karen C. What a great candid clip of this song!

  • DOUBLE AMEN!!

  • great song she had a voice that was heaven sent, hey DIANNE are you listening !

  • ABC network made an upbeat disco version of the song, with rewritten lyrics, to reflect the network starting to gain momentum by the 1976-77 TV season.

One of the newcomers were Charlie's Angels, and returning favorites range from Happy Days to Starsky and Hutch.

  • This later became a jingle for ABC in the 1976-1977 TV season.

  • Maybe Horizon. was The Best. or is it Every Single Early Album. This was maybe the End of the Best of their recordings/ Except for the Very Last. The Karen Solo. Now. They were so Lucky to Have Paul Williams and Bert B. Lucky @ Everything.

  • OMG....What a beautiful voice...

  • @Anotherway04 What an Amazing Post. Clear as Could Be. and Perfect and Truthful. and. They Were The Most Very Best Of The Best. and Are.

  • So sweet. So pure. Makes me weep.

  • She has voice from HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!! She was a beautiful angel!!! I just hate that she had to suffer with an eating disorder. Her beautiful voice just calms me!!!!!!! I miss her too, thank God we have her music to listen to!!!!

  • love the way her voice resounds at "light the WAAY" 1:34

  • Awesome! Simply awesome!

  • WOW! I remeber being a little kid and seeing this album cover every day! I grew up on the Carpenters. One of the best things my mother did for me was to expose me to the Carpenters. The music of today can't even come close!

  • @saaysl1 The same here I grew up listening to the Carpenters. My father exposed me to the Carpenters. Oh the music today is not even music so yeah it can't come close. And this is the first time I've heard this song unreal, after all of these year.

  • I never knew this version of the recording existed!

  • this is the first day of my life i hear this voice, god please forgive me this sin and my ignorance , that i lived for 30 years without knowin her ,plz dont let me burn in hell, a priest who can bless me ?

  • @chrysabra ur under KC's spell now welcome aboard !!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @chrysabra u have to check out all the documentries on you tube of the carpenters now!!!

  • What does she speak at the end of the song? I'm not native and it's kind of hard to understand. Thanks

  • @clarkor she's saying figured out where the rest of the melody is? i'll sing it,she's probably making a joke cause the song is short.

  • @stangfever04, @clarkor and @Rudy61287: This is what used to be called a "work lead" in the old days, basically a demo or dry run. It was never meant to be released. That's why you hear the "counting off" at the start and Karen's playful comments at the end.

  • This song is amazing omg what the heck are they putting on the radio these days?

  • @Siscly113 The world has become a coarse and guttural place indeed. No talent is required to please the deaf ears of the average person these days.

  • Did she play the drums on this one ? Funky playing and of course genius vocals !

  • @alexlancer11 The drummer is Hal Blaine, who can be heard counting off the tempo at the beginning of the track.

  • some did try to imitate her, but none did succeed. No one could equal, not even be half as good as her

  • Love the tape. Sounds like she's working out the details. That's what it took. Practice and more practice. That's one thing Richard, Karen and the others involved did, went for perfection. Thanks for posting.

  • The world was truly blessed by an angel with Karen Carpenter. She has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. Twenty-seven years after her death, I still mourn for her. While I have many regrets in life, I will always regret that I never got to see her perform in person. I was a child when she passed away and never had the opportunity. I miss her. Thanks for sharing this song. It is one of my favorites.

  • @melismit123 great comment, and I APPRECIATE IT............Karen will always be in our memeories

  • classic arrangement, flawless voice, My life is BETTER because Karen taught me to live everyday to the fullest and NOT judge anyone.....Happy New YEAR EVERYONE!!!

  • For silent understanding, a loving touch -

come to me when things go wrong

and there’s no love to light the way.

Let me be the one you run to

Let me be the one you come to

when you need someone to turn to.

  • the hit. it should have been the biggest hit. Paul W., Karen, Richard, A&M records, Herb Albert. never ever will there be such a combination of talent. and yes too (Dakers11 post) Bless the Beasts and the Children. and all of the late Karen recordings. every recording. re-release. on radio. to show all these copy-dance-copy-girl singers. what is was to have music. a voice. and talent. like everything that Karen touched.

  • I was in a choir that went to the International Music Festival in Seifeldt, Austria. We sang this song -- I have such wonderful memories of that trip. Our choir was voted the best choir of the festival.

  • @Dakers11

    Sure.......AMEN.

  • where can one find an mp3 of this outtake version?

  • This is the best song Karen ever did. More people should take the time to really listen to this song. You will notice that no one has ever done it since!!!!

  • @rajtennis its her vulnerable and pensive reading at the bridge section that reveals a lonely and troubled soul in search of salvation. Sadly, the music wasn't enough for her, though it is ours to enjoy and marvel at.

  • @rajtennis Nobody could ever equal this !!!

  • Lonliness is a person's worse enemy and having someone to turn to is a gem in one's life .. not too many people take the time to care. Excellent song and so expressive of ones feelings.

  • never ever again. will there be a song like this. thank you for posting this version.

  • According to the new book, "Little Girl Blue," Karen wanted this to be the first single released from this album. But when songwriters Paul Williams & Roger Nichols heard the Carpenters' version of their other song "Rainy Days & Mondays," they begged them to release "Rainy Days" instead. Paul Williams points out that even though many artists have recorded "Let Me Be the One," nobody has ever turned it into a hit. But my feeling is that this would have been a Top 10 success back in 1971.

  • Today I have listened to a cover version, now I am confused, because I don't know

which one is better ! Beautiful song. Thanks for sharing.

  • why are the MOST Talented people themost LONELY...?

  • @nealadams70 Maybe because regular people are afraid to talk to them and feel intimidated by their perceived "image". I wish I had know Karen. She was so cool. I miss her a lot.

  • @Saddlerockbob i wish i had known her BEFORE she had her fame....

  • Classic karen

  • Karen at her best...and Richard. What can you say? He was a musical genius. His arrangements were envied everywhere. These guys were class. C...L...A...S...S.

Check their web site...Richard's got quite a collection of cars...and he's still busy as ever.

    Just great/good people.

  • @SuperLin55 Sad having to resort to making posts like this about yourself. Poor Richard.

  • KAREN! KAREN!KAREN!KAREN!KAREN!KAREN!KAREN!KAREN!KAREN!KAREN! YOU ARE THE ONE!!!!!

  • I'm 17 years old and every time i hera her songs, i sense so much magic, charm and beauty in her songs :) rip Karen Carpenter

  • Who originally sang this song? Like a David Gates kinda silky voice. It's making me NUTZ! Please help. Thanks Clark

  • @PetClarkie He wasn't the earliest, but you probably mean Jack Jones. Just use the search engine.

  • @Vericacious thanks V. But no- I have that Jack Jones album. It will come to me I'm sure. Have a great day and thanks again for the suggestions! Peace Clark

  • @PetClarkie Oh! You've surprised me. Just about all of the other versions from around that time are by women. (Just checked and they're all on YouTube, too.) I'll have to ask.

  • @Vericacious its a great album by Jack. I purchased it from a little trader place in Bowling Green KY of all places! Its Live Fo Life (which is also a catchy tune)

  • @PetClarkie I haven't heard of that release, but I'll look out for it. With Jack Jones, I've only got compilations. (I'm in England, BTW.) Jack Jones- he was ubiquitous in the 60s and 70s, such is fashion.

  • @PetClarkie i was wrong. The album is a song for you. i ran over to play it and picked out live for life. to my surprise- wasnt on it. sorry for the mis-info. peace Clark

  • Karen's voice like no other,we miss u Karen, RIP

  • love this song :)

  • Clear ass fuck! Great job!

  • I agree, I love this song, and I love the way Karen sings it. She gives this song the dynamic and classic sound, that it deserves. Nobody sings like Karen Carpenter.!!

  • I really like this song :) One of the best :)

  • Great Song! Always used sing this in my Room! Have this LP still!

  • I remember hearing this song for the first time when I was 7 years, I wept... and still do everytime..

  • the reason no one can duplicate her voice is because she knew she had perfect-pitch and an incredible range and she consciously stylized her voice, shaping her notes, phrasing, etc. uniquely, in addition her brother knew her voice too and exploited it to the optimum by dramatic octave drops into her low alto range. this was no mistake--the two were musical genuises, he still is.

  • my Fav. Carpenters song!!!!..wasn;t their biggest hit..except to me!!! lol

  • Guaoooo, qué versión tan heavy de este tema, nunca la había escuchado!!!!

  • Which version is this? Is this the demo? This is awesome by the way!

  • the most beautiful and warmest voice ever

  • Thank you!

  • Richard and Karen were true pro's,however the real treat is at the end of the track with Karens banter, word is she had a fantastic sense of humour,as evident in t.v. specials.

  • just so beautiful, i adore her voice so much.. she sings so beautiful..

  • What a beautiful voice!!

  • Bless the beasts, the children and Karen Carpenter. Can I get an Amen?

  • @Dakers11 AMEN

  • @Dakers11 Amen!

  • @Dakers11

    AMEN!!!!!!!!!

  • @Dakers11 You got it! AMEN!

  • @Dakers11 AMEN!

  • @Dakers11 Amen !!!

  • Heart felt Soul Food kids !

  • KAREN SPIRIT

  • This song was modified into an ad campaign for ABC in '76

In fact, a lot of their promos were based on hit songs

  • Karen Spirit

  • Spell Carpenters!

    simple, it goes like this!

    P- E- R- F- E- C- T!

    I Love you KAren!!

  • the best voice of all the time ... she always will be the one

  • This is an alternate take from the 4 CD set issued in 1991. I like it better than the original! It really shows Karen's personality, plus the sound quality blows me away. Her voice is amazing. If I could sing (and I can't) for just one hour, I'd pick her voice.

  • Thank YOU to Chicpizz209 for this gem.

  • As a premier lead female vocalist,

    KAREN must have been in seventh heaven;

in a studio, laying down her vocals.

OMG with all of those beautiful strings,

    RICHARD's amazing piano work, those

"signature oboe or English horn lines,

harps, French Horns, smooth brass, woodwinds, plus outstanding guitar and bass playing....WOW!

THEY had it GOIN' ON FOR REAL

  • John Lennon himself complimented on her voice, and she didn't take him seriously! Unbelievable!

  • what a voice, I sang a lot of her songs when I was in a band back in the 70's

  • deep love song and a great voice Karen

  • perfection

  • She was incomparable... I got to see her live twice as a child. Amazing.

  • Incredible... no other words to describe her angelic voice!

  • the best voice of all time!

  • The voice could not be stilled.....

  • was this ever released on a 45 rpm

  • besides her gorgeous voice she can change key so effortlessly - soulful

  • an angelic voice - absolutely untouchable - an angel on earth her music is beautiful and timeless an angel in heaven god i wish you were still around to show these youngsters how to sing

  • My favorite by the Carpenter's - although it never made it to No. 1... Karen's voice can never be duplicated, nor should anyone aspire to copy her.

She will always be "the voice of an angel," as so many others have described, and it fits... perfectly. We miss her so much.

  • @LAnative4evr she was beautiful, in every sense of the word. she had her demons, which eventually killed her, but her truly angelic voice was a gift from God, sent to us at a time when we as a nation needed a soothing, smooth, effortless voice to calm us from the turbulent 60's. She was a meteor, shining on this earth for only a short time; the sadness wells up within us, who apreciate her talent, when we realize just how short her stay on this earth was, and how many more songs were in her.

  • @radioham67 You are so right. Her voice was perfection. She was an angel.

  • I love this song so much Karen Carpenter's voice is so beautiful. The voice of an angel Karen is sorely missed but The Carpenters songs will live on forever.

  • Once, this lovely "troubador" sang out in her

heavenly voice; to "Bless The Beast and the

Children", give them shelter from the storm...

keep them safe.... keep them warm. For all we know and hope, is that she has THAT peace and

warmth NOW. I still have it, everytime I hear her sing. RIP gentle ANGEL.

THANKS to Chicpizz209 for sharing such a GIFT with all of us.

  • was she drumming on this???

  • when i listen to karen sings here voice brings me to tears.we all miss you

  • This would easily have been a hit in 71 or 72 if they had released it as a single...it was on their third album.

  • Absolute perfection in Karen's voice!

  • My MOST favorite song by Karen

  • So beautiful - I never tire of hearing Karen's lovely voice - and this song; my favorite!

  • Great Paul Williams song sung by the angel voice of Karen Carpenter. The other angels in heaven dance to her voice.

  • Please J....write to me?

  • Count it off Hal.

    Hal Blaine's drums

    Joe Osborne's bass

    Richard's piano (and arrangement)

    Karen's voice

    Perfection.

  • ***Sigh......**** I'm in heaven..... I love this song so very much!! It is, by far - my favorite Carpenters song. Thanks so much for this. I've been looking everywhere for it!

    *****10 STARS!!*****

  • Her Angelic voice will live forever with those of us who appreciate and know good music! Karen, you left us far too soon are so missed, RIP!

  • Absolutely stunning!

  • Could she be more perfect? No. She was an angel already.

  • One of the lovliest of all Carpenter's songs. So nice to see this version posted.:)

  • This is absolutely my most-favorite Carpenters song..... of course, I have a Top 15 list of favorites by the Carpenters. I think it's because it wasn't over-played like their other #1 hits, so when I DO hear it, I love it even more! Thanks so much for posting this!

  • So do I. Thanks for your comment.

  • @kmoots THis is my absolute FAVORITE also, it reflects what american music is all about and we should be proud that we had such awonderful song with such wonderful songstress. We all miss you Karen!

  • @kmoots I couldn't agree with you more. This is definitely in the TOP 10 Carpenters' songs. Miss that voice.
