  • this film is soo bloody hard to download!! can everyone go to thepiratebay . com and type the ritz download the torrent using utorrent that way i can download the film aewell!!

  • LOVE IT!!

  • Brilliant Rita Moreno in a very underrated and fabulous comedy. Her performance alone is worth the price of the dvd. This is how Bette Midler started singing, in a gay bath house, with non other than Barry Manilow as her pianist. Great fun.

  • asweedd

  • A brilliant film and she is so funny

  • I am moved by Rita Moreno`s performances. In any movie. Convincing. And true to the craft.

  • Sister Pete before she went off to the nunnery

  • Love u Googie.. :) *kisses*

  • I love this movie.... my favorite line: "You're invited... to the Crisco Oil party!"

  • I've seen it on video -- rented it one New Year's Eve, an occasion that calls for this sort of thing. One can't stay sad when watching. I seem to recall Ms. Moreno performed with GMCLA back in the old days at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. We had a good time.

  • Excellent Movie, excellent cast. Everytime I saw Rita Moreno I couldn`t help but wonder what Bette Midler was thinking when she saw it. Rita Moreno was VERY funny and carried most of this film.

  • Bette Midler latina.

  • Ms. Moreno did a wonderful radio interview a couple years back and she tells the story of her mother meeting Rita's late husband Leonard Gordon, for the first time..and with her thick PR accent.."are you a Jew?" only the pronunciation is pure Googie.."are Jou a yew?" it was great listening to her stories abt Hollywood. (sadly, Leonard just passed away this June)

  • and now--

    My tribute to Cole Porter.

    "When they begin, the begin..........

  • OMG she is a freak'in genius !!!!!

  • OH I LOVE THIS! Haven't seen it for years. "I have a dreeeeen baby". Hysterical!

  • I saw the first 0:20 seconds on a show. I forget which one though. LOL this is what happens when your mind explores famous people.

  • Pretty amazing!

  • Classic!!

  • watch the interview with Rita "Rita on Googie Gomez and James Garner"....she talks all about how the character came to be and how Terence McNally wrote the part for her....great show biz trivia....and a GREAT woman!!!

  • You know, it takes a real pro to come across as terrible performer a as Googie and make it funny.

  • Leonard Gordon...world's luckiest man!!

  • This movie is Great!

  • I haaaad a dreeen, a dreen about choo bebbeee.

A lot of parts of this movie still make me cringe. But, as others have said here, Rita Moreno, F Murray Abraham, and Treat Williams more than make up for them.

Love this movie. I use many lines from it whenever I can.

  • jackal59 is spot on. It has great moments and some very draggy ones (no pun intended).

Rita, F. Murray and Treat are so good it's nothing short of remarkable. The whole Italian contingent (Weston, Ballard and Stiller) are just not funny.

Of course this is from another era--the era of, for better or worse, a casual sex explosion. But every once in a while I pop it in and laugh my head off. It's worth the bad to relish the great. Rita is amazing!

  • wow, i'm surprised that this has only played 16, 347 times. like i've said earlier, this is 2:31 of sheer brilliance. time for a Facebook link, so more people can appreciate another facet of Ms. Moreno.

  • Wasn't this Cliff Clavin's break out role. All those voice deals.

  • i think The Ritz is a great movie, really funny

  • It's too bad that this is not really a good movie. You can see why in this clip, where Rita Moreno's brilliance is paired with broad and unconvincing mugging by Jack Weston. Did we really need to be *told* that we should laugh?

_The Ritz_ has three great performances (Moreno, F. Murray Abraham, and Treat Williams ("I was born with this voice!" "So was *Yma Sumac*!) drowning in a sea of blah (in which Weston bobs like a turd).

  • Was that the night she famously "bombed at the bath house?", and her dress shrank?

Can't tell you how many night I spent in that old bath house ,(The Continental) watching Holly Woodlawn do that act ! Thats the charachter "Googie Gomez" was based on !

  • And now, a salute to Cole Porter....When you begin... the begin....

  • sheer brilliance. her comedic timing is impeccable...adjusting her bottoms at 1:43 and her misstep at 1:50, pure genius. only rita moreno can have her back to the camera and still be bloody hilarious.

  • This clip is always guaranteed to make me laugh so hard I almost pee myself.

  • Just wonderful! Loved it when I first saw it, and waiting forever tosee it again. Finally on DVD. Thanks for this classic.

  • Rita is perfect!!!!!!! Love the play & the film. Thanks for posting this & the Michele Lee clip from Seesaw.

  • A Movie Dearest blog featured video. See my profile for the link and playlists!

  • Howling! So glad this is on You-tube. Love this movie and have watched it a hundred times. Hooray for a revival but it can't possibly live up to Rita.

  • This is absolutely one of my favorite films of all time. They need to re master this as the quality of the sound and picture are not great, and then re-release it. It really is a classic. ... and yes, it is finally back on Broadway.

  • Just wonderful. Rita Moreno is one of America's greatest treasures. I would have loved to see the original production back in the '70s.

  • Classic!

  • Ha ha ha... I never noticed before, but the band plays her off with "Lady of Spain." Shriek!

  • Fabulous. Thanks for that. One of my all time favourite movies, and sadly never seems to have been available on video or DVD. (P.S Dont tell Chuck:-)).

  • BRILLIANT!!!
