They are not offering Synaptic package anymore to new users in 11.10 so press alt+ctrl+T and type without comas

"sudo apt-get install synaptic"

then go to search and type synaptic

nam doesn't like Ubuntu 11.04. How did you get it to work on that platform?

@AinaRaoelina5 As I said, I have no idea about NAM or NS2, just want to show a friend how it can be installed inside Ubuntu as she was new to Ubuntu....
