Shouldn't it easier to pull off the sweep if you use the left thigh/knee to create some space before you shaken his base and do the backroll? (kinda like Shaolin sweep but with the kimura like grips?)
@BenVereen2020 Usually, if they base out that far, it opens up a fair amount of space for you to go back to finishing the kimura, since it takes all their weight and base away from defending the arm, so if you're equally strong, you have a good opportunity to break his grip and get his hand out into space. Whether you finish the kimura after that is another issue, but in general, I find that's what I go to.
Yes, I see what you mean. I've been able to pull this off on many of the guys at my club, not just the sweep but the Kimura when I threaten the setup but one of the advanced guys has me stumped.
He bases out his leg and stuffs the arm I'm grabbing right under it. Kimura is stuffed and he almost got an armbar when I went back to the sweep. I guess he's just wise to this one! But for the other guys it has worked like gold!
@BenVereen2020 If they do that, I would maybe recommend, given the angle, throwing your left leg over their head onto their hip and semi-inverting to finish the kimura from there or try to roll through for the armbar?
Quick Caio Terra tip - use your left thigh to kick their head away a couple of times before you throw the foot to their hip. It stops them stacking you and killing your angle.
Really liked this, pulled it off in training today. Well pleased. People seem to like putting their hand on the bottom knee to block the full guard so didnt make it to hard to pin.
