I have been to Asheville, Maggie Valley, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge and I would say this is one of the best.

@DBadBrown Supposedly the best of the appalaichiain trail is in Maine. I've only seen pictures though, I say it all looks really great from Georgia to New York and finally to Maine. I tend to like the Blue Ridge area more but it might be because I'm so used to the vegetation and rivers of Georgia.
