  • I'm from Hull, I smiled every time he said Hull :L

  • He'll never see this but, Martin, Your granddad was a brave man and a hero.

  • Martin's more adorable than a grown man has any right to be, this is really moving besides.

  • Morrison, I thought he said Moran and had to replay that section. XD I'm looking too much into this. lol.

  • I love that he types with two fingers

  • @4EyedBlonde omg me too. and i thought he was just doing that for his character in sherlock lol

  • i'm fucking crying

i wish i know more about my ancestors..

  • @niebells I wish i did too, but they didn't keep much records on native americans =(

  • @1sttimeloser That depends on the tribe.

  • @niebells I don't know where you are from but some family history websites like ancestry.com and findmypast have free trials, so you have a little while when you can find out lots of stuff without having to pay :)

  • @katrinalindley assumed from where i'm from, i don't think i can do much :(

  • @niebells If there is a Mormon church near you, you can contact them about their genealogical library. You don't have to be Mormon to use it.

  • @corvus13 Now that is a comment I didn't expect to see. Someone referencing the LDS Church's awesome genealogy search capabilities. :)

  • @kiwigreeneyes I've used their services quite a bit. Even if the local Mormon genealogical library doesn't have exactly what you need, you can order the books and records through them from other libraries.

  • he was blind? wow. fascinating. amazing. god. amazing. oh martin you're so sweet:')

  • Leonard's burial record is on findagrave.

  • "Fantastic."

    "Amazing... amazing!"

    "Fascinating."

I think the John is coming out in him... ;D

  • That's strange how there's all this history that you know nothing about. Had that stone(I'm sorry, I forget what it's called) been displayed on a public area, he'd probably have just thought "Oh look, that chap has the same last name as me" and have no clue that it was in fact his grandfather. Incredible.

  • 5:23 - his eyebrow! Aw, Martin, let me hold you :3

  • I love how modest his home is. It's so very... Martin.

  • I hate my own country for killing his grandfather - in a war as stupid, cruel and senseless as possible.

  • @MasqueradeCookie To be fair it was a war that was trying to stop a man who'd killed 6 million Jews from taking over Europe.

  • @pockypurse ....I am German... WE started the war... -.- I totally agree that England had to interfere

  • @MasqueradeCookie you dont have to hate your own country, they should do a German version of this show and there will be horror stories as well. My grandfather was in the Navy and was in the Battle of the Atlantic, but still met German Veterans of the war.

  • @MasqueradeCookie - don't be silly. The Germany of today is one to be proud of. The old Germany was a very different one to the Federal Republic.

  • @kealyc1 I know it's silly, but it still feels wrong. I don't even know how I had acted had I been born earlier - how they could have managed to influence me. One of our former Kanzlers called it "the blessing of the late birth" and I think he was right. But thank you nevertheless :)

  • @MasqueradeCookie When I was stationed in the US Air Force in Germany, I entered a pub where there were several older German men sitting around, and one of them came up to us and said. "I love America. I was a POW in Texas."

  • I noticed that Leonard's father in the birth certificate was listed as making an X mark. That is explained by his being blind.

  • did he just call that guy 'Captian Starlin'????

  • Martin's bag reminds me of the Union Jack pillow from Sherlock ;D

  • On the American show there were some parallels, too. Sarah Jessica Parker's ancestor was accused of witchcraft during the Salem witch trials (nothing came of it since the trials disbanded before it came to court.) And she played a witch from that time in a movie. (I think part of that movie's story was that she was accused.) There were other instances like that too but can't remember them right now.

  • He has a moleskine notebook *wibbles*

  • Martin Freeman's grandfather was a medic for the army and a war hero, and decades later his grandson plays one of the most famous army doctors in literature and wins a BAFTA for it.

  • @TrufflesTheMushroom How cool is that? Funny how some stuff turns out.
