  • y doesnt he have his small moustache most of the time in the trailer?

  • @rautrohit Because Charles Chaplin's moustache was part of the gigi, his character. He himself didn't actually have moustache.

  • @luigicamp69 gig*

  • @luigicamp69 HE HE HA HA HO HO!!! Yeah, glad you agree. That year, Robert Downey Jr. had ONE OF THE ultimate acting challenges, and maybe even of all time. He SO should have won that year!!!

  • @luigicamp69 - oh thanx for the reply, i really didnt know this, i thought he kept his moustache permanently..

  • Dan Arkroyd says "What is he putting on? A suit of armour?" at 0:19! HAH! Did anyone else get that? Such a great coincidence... or is it! Arkroyd is a legend.

  • Too bad valentino never got a decent bio.

  • Robert Downey jr *-*

  • This film should have been so much better than it was. It was fraught with so many setbacks, mostly financial, which created so many problems. And it was made too late. Up to the 1970's the Tramp was still one of the most recognizable images on the planet. Not so much by the early 90's. The public by and large is not interested in "old" stuff. Chaplin had such an amazing, full life, but in an attempt to get the public's attention, the film labored on his "wild side".

  • does anuone know any more films about film makers like this and ED WOOD please? :)

  • Robert Downey Junior is the best! #sherlock_holmes

  • @dungd2nTV can you imagine that they can make a biographic drama film based on walt disney`s life? :)

  • I saw the film yesterday, Robert Downey jr was amazing.

  • and this is why Downy Jr. is one of my favorite actors

  • My mind was blown at 0:20 ...!

  • 0:21 " What's he putting on a suit of armor?" Uhhh yeah he's Iron fking Man.

  • It is quite a testament to Robert Downey Jr.'s acting chops that he could capture such an incredible persona like Chaplin's and so well!

  • One of my all-time fav movies with one of my all-time fav actors.

  • I want that man......... In my bed........

  • @mangalover32 take me instead.I'm younger and better looking ;-p

  • The way Americans pronounce Borough, Shire and Burgh is terrible!

  • Wow, Robert Downey Jr. just does an unbelievable job of playing Chaplin...

  • WTF... Why cant robert D. jr. hasnt recieved oscar.....?

  • 0:54 it looks like James Woods is saying 'the scandal'

  • I think he should have won the Oscar. The British do have more respect for him. They gave him the BAFTA.

  • haha look at the smile he does at about 0:31, exactly like Chaplin! Robert Downey Jr is a fantastic actor :)

  • wow that was actually a great impression of charlie! wow i may actually watch this :P

  • i heard a lecture on this guy in my film class last week, even watched his film "The Kid", and i was just so interested in it. I haven't seen this biopic of Chaplin, but i most certainly will.

  • Everything about Charlie is so lovable and cute :3

  • @AnaLovesZombies Not according to Marlon Brando!

  • god how i love this movie. robert downey jr is a genius. :)

  • Robert Downey Jr. is one of the greatest actors there is. From Chaplin to Sherlock Holmes 2, i swear he's knocked every acting role he's gotten out of the park.

i love him so much <3

  • 0:08 NO...hes Iron Man... and your Dr Ray Ray Stantz.... and the voice over guy is...Annoying.

  • I am.

  • Sorry, I hqad autism, candlelightmystic

    from photosensitivity

Amen. Shine on a Light from heaven Lord, Shine on mw, Shine on me...

  • Hey, Robert D., We love you, okay, who is Brooke when you are a stream of God? :) Amen.

    wwwmyspacecomandlelightmywstic

  • How do I get my hands on this film on dvd?????

I live in Denmark, and can't find it any where :(

  • @canto1010 download it

  • @TheRahatluk

thanks for your reply, but I found it on dvd :)

  • Is it true that Richard Attenborough dubbed all of Robert Downey Junior's lines because he couldn't do an English accent? Just curious, doesnt change my opinion of him in any way :D

  • @blah96blahblah I don't think they dubbed over his lines. I read somewhere that for Sherlock Holmes, Robert Downey Jr. didn't have to spend much time on the English accent because of his work on Chaplin.

  • Robert Downing jr is stunning ;) cant believe he can act Charlie Chaplin

  • RD Jr. was robbed of the best actor oscar

  • Movie wasn't as good as trailer puts it out to be, but Robert Downey Jr. was fucking AMAZING as Charlie Chaplin.

  • Was there ever a sketch of the the wee bit at 0:11 ?

  • richard atten...burrow??

  • Richard Attenborougth

  • great movie but tony stark was able to build this in a cave with a box of scraps

  • @COD5252 Tony Stark = Macgyver :o)

  • "everyone has a wild side, even a legend", that don't make no sense, a legend would most likely have a wild side

  • Was!? Es gibt einen Film schon seit 1992 über Charly?! Warum weiss ich nichts davon!?!??!?

  • Before he was Iron Man..He was Chaplin.

  • This is an underrated movie.

  • @reelbrutha2 Actually all of Chaplins' wives were 16+. I guess the white man shouldn't have bothered inventing so much of what we use today just to be called evil..

  • @reelbrutha2 just... just no. michael was proven innocent otherwise he would have been sentenced... dur.

  • Robert Downey Jr., for everrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

  • Watching this with the 1911 feature is very appropriate.

  • 0:30 Damn, RDJ got that guilty laugh of his down perfectly.

  • Comment removed

  • I love old trailers with this dudes voice.

  • wow... young robert downy jr. ! start knowing him from Iron Man..

  • Best Male Acting Performances of the 1990's: 1. Anthony Hopkins, The Silence of the Lambs (1991) 2. Denzel Washington, Malcolm X (1992) 3. Geoffrey Rush, Shine (1996) 4. Robert Downey Jr., Chaplin (1992) 5. Al Pacino, Scent of a Woman (1992) 6. Billy Bob Thornton, Sling Blade (1996) 7. Robert De Niro, Cape Fear (1991) 8. Sean Penn, Dead Man Walking (1995) 9. Liam Neeson, Schindler's List (1993) 10. Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump (1994)
  • @cinemapsycho91 I don't have anything against Pacino (he's one of my favs), but that wasn't his best performance ever; and it surely wasn't as much of a challenge as portraying Chaplin like R.D.Jr did. Robert should have been rewarded for that. But oh well, it's Hollywood. I am sure Peter O'Toole would say to me.. "Yeah, tell me something I don't know" :)

  • to me this is Robert Downey Junior's best work so far

  • I hate the S.E.X seen -.- gorss......

  • @mystarwarstv why did you put periods in "sex"? You can type anything in youtube you fucking cunt

  • robert downey jr is such an underated actor. this movie is pure brilliance =)

  • Robert Downey Jr.'s Best Performances:

    1. Chaplin (1992)

    2. Tropic Thunder (2008)

    3. The Singing Detective (2003)

    4. Less Than Zero (1987)

    5. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (2005)

  • @cinemapsycho91 I agree with your 1 & 2 but I haven't see the rest. I thought he was very good in Hearts and Souls too.

  • @holiday07 Oh yes, he was especially good in that one!!! That would probably be a top ten too.

  • @cinemapsycho91 hey, where is Iron Man? :(

  • @broadcaastdude Definitely his top ten!

  • R.I.P Charles Chaplin

  • this is one of my favourite movies. You did a great job Robert Downey jr.

  • Just finished watching this film. A very unique story and Robert Downey Jr. does such an amazing job.

  • I think Downey Jr. in Chaplin, Pacino in Scent of a Woman, and Washington in Malcolm X all should have tied for the Best Actor Oscar that year. That would have been a legitimate three way tie and the first three way tie in Oscar history.

  • RDJ was robbed of the Oscar. The film itself was good but he was incredible.

  • My favourite biographical film!,

  • I'm soooo in love with Robert Downey jr.

  • The trailer says, "Behind the screen were the women who wanted him." That's true in real life too. :)

  • awesome movie dude

  • Respond to this video... rdj is nothing compared to charlie chaplin

  • @dawgzilla1 oh yeah! Youre soooo right!

The should have hired Charles Chaplin (in 1992) to play himself! Why didn't they think about it?

  • @MrMrEFE because he died in 1978

  • @WILLSTERROCKSTER 1977 not 1979 ok/....

  • @WILLSTERROCKSTER Yes, I know, sucker. I was being sarcastic.

  • Oooh, I want to see this now!

Robert Downey Jr did all his own stunts as well! How awesome! =D

  • Only a great actor... could play a great actor...

  • @snoookie456 robert downey jr is one of the few actors that can play ANYTHING that why is my favorite

  • @snoookie456 agreed, only robert downey jr. could capture the ttrue nature of Charlie Chaplin. And you kow the thing about chaplin is that he was an actor needed for the 20's and 30's society.

  • the last part, when he said smile. it almost made me cry. I love and respect charlie so much. R.I.P charlie.

  • This film was 100% pure gold.

    Chaplin was a comedic genius

  • woah...i got here from watching Ray William Johnson's latest video, to the time traveler in 1 of Chaplin's films, to an optical illusion of Chaplin's face, to hearing Chaplin's voice for the first time ever and then finally THIS!! i wanna watch this movie now LOL

  • great movie

  • Robert Downey Jr. should get an Oscar!

  • Love this movie! :)

  • il film che mi ha fatto scoprire quanto bravo fosse downey jr

  • @aurorarosaspina vale lo stesso per me...è stato proprio questo film che mi ha fatto conoscere 6 anni fa Robert Downey jr!!

  • Robert Downey Jr. was amazing in this film... he really did great role as Chaplin

  • Is the music of this trailer from the soundtrack of this movie or it's from another movie?

  • @low85 it's from a different movie. production companies send clips to another company to make the trailer, and sometimes they use different music from other movies. you can hear the song "requiem for a dream" in like 50 babillion trailers

  • @AngleandtheJerk Thank you so much. ;) Could you tell from what movie is taken too?

  • Downy Jr fricken nailed Chaplin's personality, the film itself was really beautiful to watch.

  • Amazing film watch

  • Ahh Robert was such a cutie in this movie.. <3

  • Before Iron Man, Downey Jr was Chaplin¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ guau

  • The movie was so-so but Mr.Downey was excellent. He should've won the Oscar.

  • How can a movie about a man whose movies were so entertaining be so painfully boring? Solid performance by Downey, but I found the film to be incredibly dull and slow-paced. Perhaps if it were edited down by 30 minutes or so and more homages were made to silent film technique (like the scene where they were hiding the film canisters from the cops), it would have been significantly better. I was disappointed with this one, but then again, most of Attenborough's pictures put me to sleep.

  • He's so beautiful

  • "Everyone has a wild side. Even a legend."

Especially legends, if you ask me.

  • @GusF particularly legends imo.

  • This is the sadest movie i have ever seen, the scene on the train where he is returning to London makes me cry everytime without fail. Robert Downey Jrs performance is perfect, he trully is a inspiering, incredible actor. The film is genius! :D

  • THE LEGEND IS BACK

  • Did Robert actually get any awards for this? Definitely his best film, not many people remember him for it though which is sad.

  • @GoneWithTheSinners he got the bafta for best actor and was nominated for best actor at the oscars but lost to al pacino

  • @ihatefosters I'm glad he got something, as many others have said he was blagged of that Oscar. His performance was worth more.

  • he is hot

  • Attun-burrow.

    Lulz.

  • This is on Hulu watch this great movie now for free. Forget Ironman entirely, I have.

  • i love how charlie wears his shoes on the opposite foot so he has that funny walk lols...we used to watch old charlie chaplin film in my Art and film class in high school...good times

  • I was watching Sherlock Holmes the other day with my friend and as we were sitting there all of the sudden I said "it's Charlie Chaplin!" and I remebered watching this movie when I was ten or so.

  • "Whats he putting on a suit of armour"

    EPIC FORESHADOWING

  • He really should have won that Oscar for this beyond amazing portrayal! He was the one who truly deserved it the most. <3

  • aww! hes so sweet

  • Definitely one of Downey's best roles, he probably would've won the Oscar if Pacino hadn't done "Scent of a Woman" the same year and been nominated like 10 times previously.

  • @jennifersman No, DEFINITELY would have won if Pacino wasn't nominated.

  • Forget Iron Man, this is his shining moment. Incredible work by Downey.

  • @UnpunishedMovie

I agree. I throughly enjoyed HIM and this film.

  • No se parece nada a Chaplin en el 0:25

  • Pero en el minuto 0:30 sí.

  • Comment removed

  • Pero en el minuto 0:31 sí.

  • Y en el minuto 0:50 está feísimo.

  • Hi there. ... . Tory from Austin Texas. Singer songwriter musician. Check out my originals and subscribe if you like. Please listen to my own original of The Little Tramp..a tribute to Charlie Chaplin. Namaste.

  • Robert Downey Jr is truly an actor where it is surprising that he has never won an oscar

  • a very young David Duchonvy as the camera man.

  • Alright, so the real Charlie I find so adorable and funny, Attraction wise, I see him as the funny and cute gent a girl would want to be and have sweet innocent fantasies about. But when I saw Robert in this clip, he did the same thing, but he has this indirect sex appeal, if that makes any sense, in this.

  • 0:48 - reminds me of charlie bit my finger!

  • this is an amazing film. RDJ bears an uncanny resemblance to Chaplin. He deserves every award for this, he should've won the oscar.....just incredible.

  • charlie chaplin was better

  • chaplin is the guy from iron man i just noticed

  • whats the name of the song in the trailer

  • i have yet to see this movie! i'm excited...

btw, 1:29 : kickbutt shot. lol im such a film nerd but you gotta admit, it's a beautifully composed shot!

  • i have yet to see this movie! i'm excited...

btw, 1:29 : kickbutt shot. lol im such a film nerd but you gotta admit, it's a beautifully composed shot!

  • I think this was a way better performance than Al Pacino's Scent of a woman.

Al Pacino shouldve won an academy for Godfather part 2. Robert Downey Jr is

    one of the Best !

  • @MrLatinLingo i agree...truly RDJ did an amazing job here, he should've won!

  • a complete powerhouse performace. Al pacino did deserve the oscar from that year. I believe that Downey Jr. would agree with me. Althought none the less Robert was simply amazing in the role!

  • The best performance of the 1990's.

  • we had to watch Charlie Chaplin movies in our class and i thought they would be bad cause of black and white i was wrong all his movies are good even this one loved it.

  • ho my god, one on my favorite Downey.Jr"s movies ! Thanks to post that !

  • Amazing movie. Really Amazing. You know, I watched photographs of both Errol Flynn and Douglas Fairbanks, and I believe that the actors who have portrayed them nowadays were "misplaced" If you know what I mean: Errol looks a lot more like Kevin Kline, and Doug looks more like Jude Law (who portrays Errol in "The Aviator") But still, all performances are simply marvelous. A complete masterpiece.

  • I wish that Pacino had won an oscar for a previous roll so that Downey Jr. would have won for chaplin. Rob was amazing as Chaplin. I am a huge fan of Pacino, but I think he should have won for something other than Scent of a Women.

  • 1:14 Errol Flynn?

  • @TheWrestlerNation Nope, Douglas Fairbanks.

  • No, Douglas Fairbanks

  • wow i must say that i'm impressed and robert downey jr is really a great actor i mean how many actors can you find that can act in every genre??? but i think that he is best as detective.

  • iron man was not a bad movie. and he was really good as tony stark... *shrugs*

  • It was an ok movie, nothing special, very overrrated movie, anyway he has better movies such as natural born killers, zodiac

  • yeah, i'm just saying that even for a blockbuster, it wasn't a bad movie and he did a good job as always so no big deal that he chose to do one.

  • @polaroid18

what does iron man have to do with Chaplin?

  • @UltraMovieNerd ah, and i didn't realize my comment got votes. now I understand how that was read out of context. haha.

  • ah one of my favorite actors playing one of my favorite childhood actors! :D

  • Beautiful movie. Smile!

  • 'tis an outstanding film.

  • I still can't believe that's Robert Downey Jr. I gotta see this film on day.

  • hot damn hot diggity damn!

  • best movie ever.

  • I HATE this voice over

  • This film was made ages a go but i still wana see it.
