What an interesting title, referring to the fact that the day after a nuclear attack could exist, rather than being a simple end of the world. Gee, wouldn't be awful if some other director came along changed the title slightly and stuck onto his disaster movie as if it was his idea (the Day After Tomorrow)?
I don't really think the Soviet Union and the United States really would've engaged in a nuclear war i mean it makes no sense they were both equally capable in terms of their nuclear arsenal and neither had any really defense against nuclear attack the Soviets were fascists but they weren't stupid and neither are we
@otaniesa, thank you for mentioning Letters from a dead man. I've seen a lot of post apocalypse/nuclear war films but had never heard of that film before. An excellent although grim film.
In many ways Threads is more frightening than The day after. Testament (1983) is utterly depressing.
If you want to see the russian side of this matter, try to find Letters from a dead man (1986), just as frightening and depressing as its western counterparts
Don't bother with expecting one - by the end of the film most of the main characters are dead and the American society was slowly collapsing from anarchy and radiation. Just really makes you think about who to vote for next time, doesn't it?
i was watching vh1's i love the 80's last night and they were talking about how they were scared shitless when they first saw this....now when the watch it they are like wtf??how was i scared of this shit?!
@LotusElise05 Youtube or you can buy the movie online (I even got a copy at Wal-Mart). However, this movie was made in 1983. I watched it with my older sibs. I was only five! It scared the crap outta me! I own several copies now. The commercially produce copies sold now (and even the one on Youtube) are NOT the same as the one originally shown onABC. Some lines and scenes have been changed or even deleted entirely in the current edition.
man this movie really scared me back then. Back in the 80's the fear of a Nuclear War was real and present. I was 10 years old and this movie was very realistic and dramatic.... and now what about North Corea?
Except an insane , totally insane , no leader would drop a nuclear bomb without to think of a reflex action over his own head...
It will be fine . But our generation will guard the limit of the insanity and will lead the new ones , as Obama shown , to never use similar actions .
@didi89s just to confirm have you actually seen this movie or are you just judging it based on this trailer?

@didi89s this is not propaganda this is a very realistic take on nuclear war unlike that right-wing bullshit Red Dawn

@zombiefan011
Red Dawn was an awesome movie. Maybe you should top being a conspiracy theorist and think every movie is propaganda.
I bet you think independence day is propaganda too, because we fight aliens.

Whose watched 'Threads' (1984)
British film on nuclear war....
trust me, if you think this is harrowing
watch Threads....

This movie scares because of its use of drama and special effects. Threads scares because it does not use drama or special effects.

the special effect weren't bad for back in 1983.
i was 31 and living in a new orleans suburb. the movie was very controversial. there was a lot of talk at work about it.
