Even though I was only 4 when we got our first TV in 1956, I can still remember the magic of seeing Annette on the Mickey Mouse Club. It was like having a cool older friend that you could look up to, and whose attention made you feel really good inside.
Annette as a young actress had the magic ingredient many actors go hunting for like it's the Holy Grail and never find. It's honesty. She never rang a false note. It's something can be taught in an acting class but is seldom learned. You never feel Annette is acting or reciting a script.
I used to watch this show & dream that I lived with Uncle Archie & Aunt Lila instead of my own violent, neglectful parents. I was unplanned, very much unwanted & they reminded me constantly. They didn't care at all how I was doing; academically (ok), socially (my great group of friends were lifesavers) or otherwise. The good news is that I found a wonderful husband who joins me in providing this kind of loving home to our two children. Best Wishes to ALL.
I put these in correct order in my Playlist on my channel so I can watch them continuously back to back. jms1943 still gets the view count if it makes it easier for you to watch that way. Just a Playlist, I didn't copy the video.
Wow blast from my past! I'm 57 and remember this serial well, but have'nt seen it since I was about 10! Thanks for posting it. This looks to be when Annette, was about 16 or 17.Just before she joined the Danny Thomas Show for one season as Gina, the exchange student from Italy.
Aww, it's a more contemporary Anne of Green Gables! Imagine, teenagers playing teenagers; wish the Disney Company had been able to inherit SOME of Walt's common sense!
This was the last serial ever produced for the original "MICKEY MOUSE CLUB", adapted from the book "Margaret", by Janette Sebring Lowrey (she was best known for writing the classic "Little Golden Book", "The Poky Little Puppy"). In fact, because of Annette's popularity, Whitman issued several follow-up novels based on this serial, right through 1964!
I've just watched this for the very first time, and I must say I can't wait to see the rest! Annette is so adorable here, as she always is. Before I start the second episode, I think I'm gonna head out to the kitchen and make myself a peanut butter sandwich. Of course, you know the brand...(alright, who's the wise guy that just yelled out "Peter Pan"?!? LOL)
Thank you so much for posting this serial! I watched all of the episodes through number seven nearly a decade ago on Vault Disney and always wanted to see the rest! It's wonderful to finally be able to watch them all!
In a way, this was disney channel before disney channel. I wonder if annette ever got the same heckling and stuff that miley cyrus and company get today?
@lilcrazy09 miley cyrus gets what she does because she's idiot annette was popular with mostly everybody and as far as i know got nothing but good publicity
This is so great!! Thanks so much for posting all of the "Annette" episodes! Even though "Annette" was "old schoo"l way before The Disney Channel even premiered, seeing these episodes takes me back to the Disney Channel in its early 80s heyday.
I failed my History class on the account of this. It used to air at 3 p.m. where I lived and my history class started at 2:30. I class everyday to rush home to watch it. Failed History but still graduated with honors.
Thank you so much for posting this! I watched this serial from beginning to end back in 2002 and I thought it was so adorable! I like Disney's portrayal of teenagers in the '50s--quite different than the "Grease" style of teen culture we've come to associate with that decade.
I was so upset when the Disney Channel stopped showing the Mickey Mouse Club and Vault Disney and became a channel mainly for kids. I do like some things like High School Musical, but it just isn't the same.

It's hard to say who I had the bigger crush on--Annette or Tim Considine. Anyone remember the Spin and Marty serial? Good times.

@cycladic The Mickey Mouse Club ran in syndication when I was a kid. I loved Spin and Marty!

Annette was my first crush...at age 4. She was probably the first crush of all boys born between 1942 and 1952. A true woman among children.

@19AshBabe97 Then close your eyes before you go blind. The beauty of black and white photography is just too much for you to comprehend.

Both Sylvia Field (Aunt Lila) and Mary Wickes (Katy) later became regulars on Dennis The Menace, starring Jay North.

Maybe it was the lights they used. I've read they used very hot bright lights to film tv shows back then.

Hi. I just found the DVD on amazon, priced about $24.95. I typed on "Annette serial" and it came up. How I loved this program! Hope you find it.

Those of you who think that Miley Cyrus simply does not have the class and charisma that Annette had, raise your hand.

I saw this at its original airing, so I am a little past 21.
