never let it be said, that 'Bev Sills' didn't have a sense of humor! Just ask Johnny Carson.
My sister has sang (sung?) harmony with her, and THAT was a couple of knockouts. I thought that this was 'something', hearing Beverly sing C&W, and then I heard my good Sister belt-out nothing less than Cat Scratch Fever! Laura was just singing, just because she does! You had to 'be-there', at-the-time. Ted Nugent, you're FIRED! The opera singers, can sing pretty-much anything that they WANT to sing.
I saw this performance when it was first broadcast, and remember practically rolling on the floor laughing. EVERYONE knew who Beverly Sills was, so Fozzie's gaffe was immediately apparent.
I would love to hear Dame Kiri do a cover of "Treat Me Right" by Pat Benetar in full Donna Elvira costume during the final dinner scene of Don Giovanni. That would be cool!
wow! what a treat! she was something else, ant to sing "when it's roundup time in texas, and the bloom is on the stage" proved that not only was she so talented, but that she had a wicked sense of humor as well. I miss you, Beverly Sills - you brought joy to us.
I never thought I'd ever see this again (God Bless Youtube!). I remember watching this when it aired and thought it was hilarious. What a great show - thanks so much for the clip.
this is not unusual for muppet show guest stars doing something they are not known for to show the audience how versital they are, like bev hills country western/ or rich little doing old time standards or bob hope singing country it is amusing
Thanks bakerpaters for posting this. I adore Beverly and miss her tremendously. She was not only one of the greatest singers of the century, but probably the greatest human being that I ever met.

Beverly Sills singing country in her soprano voice sounds like the opera-sining chicken Clara Cluck. XD
