No where near as beautiful as it was before the Tsunami; all the straw huts, trees, animals and indiginous people have gone, taken by the wave; it's now just full of currupt mainland Thais and pissed morons unfortunately.

@Planetman1z -- Maya Bay on nearby island Phi Phi Lai where they filmed The Beach, was untouched by the wave and is still gorgeous; the mountains and jungle on the main island are worth a visit. Although, I'd still recommend Kho Tao in eastern Thailand if you want beauty, peace and excellent scuba diving.

just came back from there. litterly amazing, just unreal. when we went onto the beach we ll landed on the sand head first just like leonado did in the movie. WOW i want to be back there. go if you havnt. also get a potatoe and cheese thai pancake, sounds rotten but its amazing!! <3

@mandasity Your "holiday", "mini migration" whatever you want to call it is what YOU yourself make it. If you dont like tourists then it is easy to avoid them. In the case of Thailand there is Khao Lanta which has hardly been touched (well 2007 it wasnt). And Hat Yai for the city experience. I agree that some tourists are absolute scumbags and should be avoided at all costs. Im sure that was what bubble 81 was on about. Buy you simply cannot say "too many tourists" as its an unfair stereotype
