  • When I first started playing the trumpet at age 10, I found it easier to hold the trumpet at a slight angle since it did not strain my left tricep muscle in keeping the trumpet bell up. Then I got a stern lecture from my teacher at that time and keep it straight up and that little muscle dealt with it. Also, I wonder if the slight twist of the bell affects the tone??? I doubt it. Besides, Phil can place that bell wherever he wants given his stature!
