  • @BenPersonIsCool It's just a normal map that has been placed over the texture to give it a bumpy and creasy feel.

    view tuts about not going through buildings and poles and stuff....lol he ported all this over, and just about everything has collision (collision is what its called by the way lol) the poles dont but if they did every time he hit them hed hit a dead stop, unless he set up the rigid body crap...give the guy a break lol.

  • Its a game engine, so you get out what you put in, ie, if you can model the damage to the car and script it to apply the damage then yes. if not, no.

  • Same answer, there isnt anything you "cant" do with a game engine, if you have the skills and knowledge to make a game like GTA then you could make a game like GTA. If you don't know how to write (probably if not more than) hundreds and hundreds of lines of code for it then no. Also you would need to make the car model with the various stages of damage. It would be alot of work, and you would have to be really quite cleaver and have ALOT of time to do anything even nearly like it on your own.

  • i get it but thats now what GTA 4 developers did they just wrote a script to make the car "smaller" after the hit like eh... in the VideoSketch Video so it would be easier right?

  • I'm not to sure what you where trying to say there... it didn't really make sense. But no, what the Rock Star team will be doing is using there physics engine with there 3d models. For example (although not true) Imagen that the "car" has 6 collision points or triggers on it, and if trigger, front right collides with any other collidable mesh then it will run the damage script. So it would be the location, plus the speed and force info from the physics eqauls mesh change to bent fender. get it?

  • @santiainen well duh, they made the whole game on RAGE enginge even if the scripts inside are java or C# everything is still RAGE

  • If you want to the schedule download Flatout Ultimate and game to defile it not well

  • The graphics realy almost entirely on the programs used to model everything in the scenery.People couldn't even judge graphics on Unity since it just takes what you give it.I believe that Unity free version will soon be updated with depth-of-field,if it hasn't yet.That should make graphics seem better...

  • In game factory, not only shadows are important folks, there are a lot of techniques more, Normalmap, Bumpmap, Reflections, GlossyMap, HeighMap, lightmap, Vertex Colours, Ambient Occlusion, etc, etc, etc.... Unity, Game Studio, Unreal Engine have those! but you must to buy, but opensource engines has those techniques too, difference is that opensource engines you must to program more. (i guess commercial one, you´re paying the easy2use system.)

  • Not true at all. Unreal 3 is far from easy to use. The advantages have more to do with marketing and training.

    For example:

    The Sauerbraten engine has all the graphics (Excluding physics) effects Source has.

    The difference is:

    Sauerbraten is based around Blender and Gimp; programs free-time developers use.

    Source is based around 3ds Max and Photoshop; programs the professionals are trained to use and programs the professionals know.

  • it can, there are two versions Indie and Pro, Professional one has Realtime shadows, trial version is just indie, its impossible to try shadows without buying the professional version and is very expensive Eurs :1099, but really this engine is great...

  • Mmm, I don't think its such a great engine as you can't do this straight out of the box, please do correct me if I'm wrong.

    Only a basic FPS movement out of the box without any weapon coding afaik.
