So you know incase this happens again, the smart thing would've been to turn around, like that car immediately in front of you. Even if the signals are clearly malfunctioning, it's still illegal to drive around the gates, and you will be fined if you are caught... even if they are clearly malfunctioning. You could probably talk yourself out of a ticket if you have urgent business, it's a clear malfunction, and it's the only route.... but generally speaking, that's trouble. :-)
