actually you can beat that you should have waited & took the bigger doe,more meat for the freezer.concentrate on the hunt not the video. lol but nice shot :)
Not raggin, BUT I do believe using a rifle in Iowa for deer is ILLEGAL, when I grew up in Iowa during the 70' heydays , you could only use shot-gun w/ slugs....... or bow. 300 yards isnt a long shot either for a centerfire rifle... run of the mill. Unless its a running fox or coyote...... then if you can do that every time, thats a skill.
@mrsmelzbad Last I heard, they've opened up some limited rifle opportunities in certain counties during the later part of the season. This could very well be legal.
@mrsmelzbad Some counties in southern Iowa allow a late season high power hunt. I hunt Dallas and Guthrie counties and it is shotgun only, but the land we hunt is mostly thick timber and that really is a detriment to a rifle hunter. As for the video uploader, I hope you did indeed learn a lesson, because the other deer behind the one you shot would've been shot in the rear part of the body which means two things, gut shot and a long tracking job. Good shot though and best of luck this year.
Aggree with prozac911. Should have waited for clear shot. Was that just lucky neckshot? Button buck which should have been a doe. Maybe could try and use binoculars.
got a ton of deer huntin videos to put on yet too and turkey hunts will be coming as well, but we're waiting to get our new editing software figured out before we do too much.
That was a good shot, but I agree with prozac911. Should have used better judgement. Also, resting your barrel on a fence is a good way to scratch the heck out of your barrel... Still a nice shot. Check out my Iowa vids. Where you from?
thats my good old red neck buddy scratchin his barrell up..thats just the way he hunts i suppose. i was just a cameraman that night but we are hunting in and around lucas county..yourself?
You should have waited till the other deer were clear before you shot. You could have potentially wounded another since they were bunched up together. Bad judgement call on your part
After reviewing the footage you are totally right we should have waited until they cleared we had several tags on us if that were to happen but we were only looking to get one that night. i was in such a hurry trying to get them focused in the view finder that i never thought twice about the way they were positioned. It'll definitely be a lesson learned on our part, but fortunatly no others were wounded.

good shot. check out my late season doe rifle harvest...

Should have been a little more patient and made sure you were shooting a doe, not a button buck. Small deer too, wasn't hardly worth the tag.
wyttale 1 year ago
@wyttale you can slap a doe tag on a button buck
bretmc92 1 year ago
@bretmc92
But why shoot the button buck and use a doe tag when there was a mature doe standing right next to the button buck?
