  • Well done. Swimming eighty meters in tubes for the Navy can be a blast too. Props to this guy for discipline and good safety habits.

  • whos the idiot kickin fin current to him while hes trying to swim? good one.

    respeck.

  • Very nice! i have a question, if someone know a good way to learn to hold breath for longer time pls tell me!

    Thanks !!! :D

  • that is so serious lung power. and control! super impressive

  • i cant even hold my breathe for 30 secons

  • mediocre, check out what collegiate and pro swimmers can do...

  • awesome!!! how do you do it??

  • That was impressive V, would you try it next time with an added belt and some lead weights? How long can you hold your breath static underwater

  • that is insane. I surf regularly but find any hold downs longer than 10 secs freak me out! Tried blowing out all my air in the pool the other day to hold my breath (without swimming 50m after!) Thought I had big lungs but only managed 45 seconds!

  • impressive, i seriously doubt others can do that

  • Pretty impressive..........how long has the training taken to reach this point?

  • far out

  • really feeling the love here...... but give the man some credit ... dont think there any need for the handbags ... do you ?!

  • really feeling the love here...... but give the man some credit ... dont think there any need for the handbags ... do you ?!

  • like if transworld surf mag brought you here haha

  • I think the only people who should be commenting here are those who have ridden a 30 ft.+ wave....R.I.P Sion Milosky.

  • he should not be wearing a drag suit!!

  • i felt like i was gonna sufficate just by watching him

  • have any of the "experts" on here towed into Jaws? at night time? Nar thought not so best just stop kidding yourselves that you know..... because you don't.

  • what were all the bubbles coming from his mouth? i thought he let all his air out? oh yah mind of matter kids, i smoke a pack a day and i can hold my breather for more than 90sec, if you were an avid surfer this might not seem so incredible

  • @grissomc1218 shut the hell up ......go and check your lungs before you die of the cause of lung cancer!!!

  • @amell0000 shut your dick sucker before i hop through this screen and bitch slap your ass

  • This is amazing

  • hard training

    or

    horrible death

  • train hard

    or

    horrible death

  • I went to school with Mark, he's been training for this since about 97. While we all went out and drank and then went for a surf in the morning, Mark would be training then sleeping, then surfing the next morning. He has put in the hard yards and been dedicated for so long that I'm totally stoked that he has gotten to where he is and deserves all the accolades..:)

  • @scoobysnacks23 his brother used to teach me

  • this guy has absolute balls of steel, he just rode a 40ft wave at jaws in the pitch black night. He had almost no visibility and avoided hungry sharks looking for a feed ( night time is their feeding time). LEGEND

  • Amazing! very dangerous...I am truly impressed

  • increibleee !!!!, felicitaciones desde Argentina !!!! Aguaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Pretty rad stuff but I routinely do 33m underwater and given the time he took, number of strokes & technique that's no way a 50m pool. Other commentors have already stated it's a dangerous stunt. Pain in the lungs is caused by CO2 build up NOT lack of oxygen in the bloodstream. Once oxygen starvation is caused you can expect to go from the commencement of tunnel vision to a full blackout in around 2 seconds. Drowning is a real possibility so only attempt this with a dive buddy.

  • Pretty incredible stuff, it's dangerous in the sense that you won't really know when you're on the threshold of passing out. I swam 50 meters underwater this summer after not swimming for a few years, and as I was nearing the end, I started feeling more and more comfortable. When I went to breathe though, I was gasping without really noticing it, and I had no discomfort from CO2 buildup. Crazy how efficient his body is, with that tiny bit of oxygen.

  • Thats pretty badass.

  • I do this alot only I'm not that good at it :P

  • @uzumakimounir sure sure

  • @uzumakimounir I'm sure you blow out all your air then submerge yourself for 2:20 minutes and proceed to swim 50 meters all the time. Also I love the criticism towards his "stroke". This guy does not compete in backstroke competitions, he rides waves bigger then the building you sleep in. Get it?

  • @SurfTheory I know I can't do it my comment was more meant as a joke I still have respect for the guy for being able to do this... so yeah I get it

  • mannn thats crazy

  • impressive

  • WOW i probably wouldnt even make the 50. for swim practice i had to let all my air out and then do a 25 and i thought i was going to pass out.

  • thats gnarly. if he had let out all his air though his chest would not be elevated off the floor the whole time in the beginning. still insane, especially with an only semi efficient stroke for 50 meters

  • For swimming underwater with no fins, it could be made pretty easily. Just point your toes to make feet turn into fins, not literally though. It just helps you swim a little faster.

  • I am a lifeguard and I can do 20s and then 50m underwater, this is insane. No matter if you are an incredible athlete like Mark or just an average Joe having a good time at the pool you should always have a couple people close by you when you are trying anything like this.

  • heavy!

  • on my god yes unbelievable

  • That's pretty intense!

  • no wonder these big wave surfers dont drown every time they wipeout

  • awesome

  • hmm lets think for a second

maybe the reason he swims bad is becuse his lungs are like fucked after a minute and half or no air and then he has too forsce his body some more..

  • How do you even do that i cant sit underwater for 15 seconds with no air i start seeing black spots at 20...

  • @Sh3neki3 lol, cos ur a failure

  • pretty gutzy stuff. he does need some lessons on how to breastroke kick underwater though haha. and why not play underwater hockey instead. same idea, same cardio-respiratory training, except more fun.

  • Freaking unbelievable...

  • That is awesum!

  • Congratulations to the athlete surf .. Very good performance. Another bit of technique in kicking underwater to help further its development.

  • I also have a GREAT deal of respect for him! I cant do 50 m even with lots of air in my lungs!

  • damn thats awesome.

  • Impressive, being a diver who trains on similar things regularly, I know it's dying a little bit inside :p

What I don't get is how big wave surfers cope with the eardrums when they get smashed several meters deep.

  • yea, how do they cope, i dont now much about diving but i now you cant decend very quick cause of that factor

  • this is not no air, but definately hard.

  • you can see him breath bubbles out towards the end, he'd find it harder swimming throughout that. His strokes are not fluid enough as well, they're fast and furious - yes I know he's running out of air - but you can get further doing it controlled see underwater apnea swimming.

  • Bubbles are the Co2 already in his body expelled. You can take out the co2 in the lungs when you exhale, but as your heart continues to pump, the blood still expels the co2 because the rest of the respiratory system hasn't shut down...

  • fish man

  • Awesome! Very hard to do, He is also wearing drag suit, He had no speedo! Unfortunately his breast stroke kick was illegal. Very gutsy performance!

  • he is training for big wave hold downs! not swim comps, he is wearing the proper attire ( what he would be wearing in a real life situation. ) try doing that all while not even knowing which way is up!

  • Dude no slight of his talent intended! I was a college swimmer and I don't know anyone who could do what that video showed. He is an awesome physical talent, complete respect for his ability! peace out!

  • Sick video, when I used to swim we would have a set where we held our breath for a minute and then immediately swim underwater for 50 meters without breathing. Very tough to do.

  • Nice vid, alot of the idiots commenting dont realize that big waves hold you under for this amt. of time, not push you 50 M deep.

  • His AvO2 dif, haemeglobin, myoglobin and a lot of other things must be INSANE

  • he has probably gotten his body use to large amount of CO2 in his lungs appose from 02.. like the hipoxic drive.

  • could be mate, not done apnea before ;)

  • FAKE

    1. thats not 50 meters

    2. time is sped up

    3. you can see footage is cut at 1:33

i want 3 minutes of my life back

Just Kidding xD, its not fake, this is insane, extreme, nice one

  • lol as funny as that was i bet you 15 bux somones gonna give you hatemail for it

  • damn man get out there and surf those waves... this guy is the truth and the shit.

  • damn, how could he do that? I mean his swimming technique is rubish. I can swim 50m underwater like that but not after 1 30. Its not record breaking but no easy task.

  • He breathed in preparation before the dive. If you breathe properly (not the hyper-ventilation - you can pass-out) then exhaling the air and doing static/dynamic apnea is still ok in shallow water. A bit deeper and pressure will totally collapse the lungs what doesn't happens that fast when the lungs are full. Plus, training like this is suppressing the reflex. All should be very careful when they do this - never alone!

  • y do u pussys even care u prolly couldnt even swim a 50 under water and he did it after holding his breath shut the hell up and give him some credit u ass holes

  • @caseyfinken Any fish could have done this... what's so amazing about it?

  • that's a 50m pool? looks like a regular 25m olympic bath to me.

I would love to see your face after this, probably tomato red and ready to burst..

  • He swims to the end and back. 25m+25m=50m

Looks like math is actually usefull after all OMG!

  • its a 50m pool...

    Maroochydore swimming club

  • why u dont train to be a freediver....and maybe beat some records out there

    : )

that was amazing !!! without air !!! HOW ???

  • wow.that is amazing!

  • jesus

  • man thats awesome training! good job

  • Song = Incubus - Nice to know you

  • how is called the song that they usesd for the video???

  • i can also swim 50m underwater in less than 25s...nice job...cannot stay more than 2 min undewater..:(

  • no you cannot.

you would have to beat ceasar.

    and you cannot.

  • That is sensational

  • Fucking impressive.

  • haha, its funny at 2:00 when the camera guy is trying to flipper away

  • 1:53, it is easier to hold your breath if you start out with little air in your lungs, when i take a deep breath i only last like a minute or less.

  • you must be weak

  • Pretty impressive, however he's not doing a full negative. He's not emptying his lungs completely - maybe half. He only breaths out for about 6 secs. If he's got big lungs then this would only amount to about 50% capacity. I regularly do negatives with my training and there is no way you can swim 50m like he does without constantly hitting the bottom. He's still quite boyant. Try it with 100% empty lungs - a completely different story!

  • sweet

  • that is a very important training for wipeouts. god job man. I gonna try to do that

  • yeh was 50 seconds anyway.

i wish i could hold my breath for that long so when my dad tries to chase me with his belt i could duck into my swimming pool and escape him.

  • hahahahahahh

  • dont do it, he ll be waiting outside for you to come and will slash you again with the belt

  • thats only 25m

its impossible to swim 50br underwater in 34, with baggy shorts, and such bad tech.

  • Blah blah blah.Dont get mad cause you CANT do this.

  • its 50m dude its at cotton tree swimming pool in maroochydore

  • it was 50 seconds if you looked at the time.

    love you!

  • tell that to the navy seals and pararescuemen

  • Obviously you dont know how to do math either...he swims for 50 seconds...he starts at 1:30 and completes at 2:20...So obviously he can swim 50m in 50 seconds underwater.

I swim a 25m in about 22 seconds underwater...its very probable that a PRO SURFER could do this stunt.

  • It is true that he swims pretty badly but it takes him 50 secons and not 34. In any case, nobody, nobody should try to imitate that because the line between consciousness and losing it is so thin that you can die before you notice. The brain will disconnect you as he recognizes that you are doing something which threatens to kill you. Unfortunately, the automatic pilot of the body does not know that you are under water in a swimming pool.

  • @thebrainyouneed Actually, it would be risky if he was doing it alone, or with non competent buddies. He looks fine here. The worst thing that can happen is a shallow water blackout, which happens when the O2 level drops below a specific threshold. He would start convulsing (loss of motor control) and eventually become unconscious. In this case his buddies just have to bring him back to the surface, blow on his face and talk to him, and he would start breathing again in a few seconds.

  • @thebrainyouneed stupid comment, he had people all around him. in that line of work you have to know your own limits. if he were to pass out, he would be instantly pulled from the pool and revived.

as far as this line you speak of, it's about one minute unconscious for barely any brain damage to occur. why else would the american school system allow kids to choke each other in judo?

  • Comment removed

  • @thebrainyouneed That's exactly why he had backup swim only a few feet away the entire time. I imagine the margin for getting someone out of the water and starting CPR must be razer thin when they're THAT oxygen starved already.

It's silly to simply say: "Nobody should ever try this!" If someone wants to train and prepare the way Mark does, that's great. They should just keep in mind this level of training takes a team of professionals and constant monitoring, it would be impossible otherwise.

  • How much do you think it cost to get gills implanted?haha. That is some impressive shit there. And you can all talk you're youtube i can do this i can do that im a navy seal bullshit. But untill i see you're videos, some proof,He is better and in better shape than all you shit talkers.

  • Best comment!

  • Its true.Thankx man.

  • i can hold my breath for 3 miutes jus under water...(i surfto jus not as elite as him) after i saw this i tried it and i did the 1 30 but when i tried to swim i onl made it like 5m coz i was ruined and had zero energy...

  • lol the art of a masterlier

  • hey parker check your spelling "they hold THERE breath for like .....blah blah "

    mark visser waterman!

    parker739 semen!

  • i thought only james bond could do that!

seriously each time i was seeing things like that in movie I thought "impossible'', seems possible now

  • the record in holding your breath is about 15-16 minuits I know its sounds wicked

  • When u breathe out is ur bouyancy affected..eg for the better or worse?

  • you sink to the bottom with no air. if you want to stay at the bottom then its for the better.

  • i die after 30 segs..........

  • i got this link from a mens fitness magazine talking about the training he does to surf mega waves. imagine having to hold ur breath and swim for that long after a massive wipe out in massive ocean swell. fuck that

  • holy shit. my face turns purple after like 30 seconds

  • Wow! I was sweating after a minute watching this video; I was gasping for air! If I got this skill, I won't bother duck diving ever again. Great vid.

  • wow awesome

  • He would be perfect for the SEALs underwater training talk to him about it. the navy can use a man like him. He would get benefits and after he retires he could go back to surfing. defenatly talk to him about it. He could set a couple of records while hes at it.

  • holding your breath doesnt make you perfect for the SEALs you retarded dumbass. SEAL is about wanting it more than anything in the world. spare us your pathetic comments.

  • thank god you said that. Everytime i watch this video i want to say something but im too lazy to comment on how absurd the whole damn statement was

  • I saw this video a few days ago and that comment was bothering me so much that I came back solely to put that kid in his place. But unfortunatly, you beat me to it. We can only hope that BKCROWN1 tries this and drowns in the process, idiot.

  • The guy didn't mean he would be a good SEAL because he can swim underwater! He meant TRAIN. If he can teach all the potential SEALs that go thru training what he knows that would be very valuable to the Navy.

  • yeah, they already have that covered. who do you think taught David Blaine to hold his breath for 17 minutes? 1:30 and a 50 m swim isnt anything special, just requires the confidence and discipline to keep yourself down there. the AVERAGE person can go 4 minutes without any air before they begin to show signs of brain damage. That can be taken up to 10-15 minutes if you hyper oxygenate your blood.

And it was obvious he wanted him to be a SEAL, note the mention of benefits, etc.

  • you are incorrect on so many levels. for one, the "world record holders" for holding breath under water almost all have abnormalities in their lungs that allow them to operate with little oxygen, they hold there breath for like 8 minutes. Secondly, there are only two instances in BUD/S where that would even REMOTELY help, the 50 meter underwater swim and pool comp. becoming a SEAL is something you have to want to your very core, and you have to be absolutely extraordinary physically and mentally

  • man fuck u, u dont no nothin bout the navy, ohh and bitch let me c u fukin do that okay, dcince u cant STFU! ;)

  • oh your right i have no knowledge of the navy. go ahead and go to BUD/S if your so confident you know what's its all about it. you wouldn't make it past indoc. and your right, no i can't hold my breath for two minutes then swim 50 meters. i can do both at seperate times, and thats good enough for pool comp.

  • you wouldn't make it past indoc. and your right, no i can't hold my breath for two minutes then swim 50 meters. i can do both at seperate times, and thats good enough for pool comp. and please learn to spell, moron.

  • You need to chill out.

  • when 10 m waves get u they push u about 50 to 60 meter deep in the water so big wave surfers need to be able to hold that much time underwater

  • source?, i cant imagine this in a physis way, not in a mental way, and if they go 60 meter....down they are doing national records of apnea in spain the record i think is 63 m....and with fins

SO I THINK U ARE VERY WRONG 50-60M lol

maybe a wave of 30 m would push u 20 m down....but what u say it looks nonsense for me, SOURCE please (maybe im wrong)

  • That's pretty good. And of course it's possible with training. The best I ever was able to do was 8o yards under water....and that was not after already holding my breath for 1:30.

    Congrats, Mark.

  • Mark is in Cape Town today I just got an SMS from him. The waves are going to be 60+ ft. This is what he trains for !!!!

  • I'm sorry, but you just witnessed it. Unless you want to continue to argue your point, people can survive without lungs in your air for a while, it just takes a lot of relaxation. People die of suffocation very shortly because they are in panic

  • relaxation and training his body to get oxygen from large muscles in other parts of his body. He has strong mental control and trains regularly on land exercising with no air. eg Breathe out all his air then perform a hill sprint.

This training is so important because he may be held underwater by 3 60ft waves. Therefore he needs to be relaxed and capable while 2 or 3 waves hold him underwater before he gets another breath. Amazing really.. also dangerous and specific training.

  • simply incredible. I would like to try this type of training for SEALs.

  • it is amazing, but isnt it possible you'd push yourself too far? what if you dont feel your lungs gasping for another breathe and actually pass out

  • It is completely possible but thats why he has people there and is not alone.

  • @mmaidens OR.. how about fuck all that and just snowboard! kickass nonstop snow waves! for miles.. and bigger air, and only the risk of avalanche for the unexperienced! yeah i do surf.. but only when i can´t snowboard!! currently in Santa Catalina PANAMA. soon to be back in norway.. ha ha ha ha ah ah ah ah aha ha ha poop me ppppooop a la!

  • @nucleardruid Umm, did you just say "Lungs in your air" ? o_o;

  • That's unbelievable. It's hard enough to hold your breath for even 2 minutes regularly. And it's pretty difficult to swim underwater 50 meters on a breath of air. How you do both and beyond with NO AIR...no clue? How does he do this?

  • What dafuck? The man from atlantis. Well done fish boy..

  • Incredible! My best effort is 50m front crawl, no breath!

  • dude are u a fish lol thats impressive stuff

  • Im holding with breath 3:20 is my record in the pool. Teach me how with no breath. How do i acheave

  • Nigga.. That's wicked..

    Great job..

  • crazy, id like to be able to do this

  • how does he train to build up his body's oxygen efficiency?

  • awesome viss! knowing that your mind usually travels 1000 miles/hr this is an even greater achievement both mentally and physically :)

  • thats heavy visser... nice effort... I think I took about 15 breaths to your one there...
