  • Ok, Tolkien....*cries tears of happines* how I wish I could have met you before died...You are truely the most amazing author; a pure genious!

His voice does, indeed, flow perfectly with the words. I could listen to his voice reading this forever and be perfectly content. *sigh* Is books are the most beautiful type of art.

  • I thank you Tolkien where ever you are , thank you for the uploader !

  • The way Tolkien read it.... It just flows off the page into such amazing words. Even Tolkien makes descriptions of cliffs interesting.

  • Lol from left side of the book is symbol if Islam, from Right right side is symbol of Satanism..

  • i have these tapes, its Tolkien reading his work.

    thanks,i must find them,yess yesss

  • @newaver64 where can i find these tapes? are there more videos on youtube that youknow of of Master Tolkien reading LotR? cheers

  • @cesarghan i dont know but ill look.

  • Yoda' voice.. are closed of smeagol "j.r.r tolkien" voice..

  • I wish I could hear him read the entire book. It's so much better hearing it told by the author himself, doing all the voices and everything :-)

  • @lavalizard3 Agreed. It's a shame that Professor Tolkien never did a full reading. I would kill to hear it read by The Professor himself; the unabridged version is rather good, but hearing Tolkien read it has no equal.

  • I LOVE this part of the book! Sam takes care of Frodo just like he always does and Gollum is so cute...poor Gollum

  • Marvelous! Tolkien imbues his work with such magic and charm - something completely missing from jackson's awful films. I mean they looked good - but that was it. I dread to think what The Hobbit films will be like - especially when jackson is quoted as saying that Thorin will be a "hunk", and will give "Aragorn and Leggy a run for their money". WTF is a "Leggy"!!

  • @kngfsh256 Richard Armitage is cast as Thorin as far as I know. He has a wonderful voice for the part...he is really hot but I don't think I'm going to mind :)

  • @ssparrow331 - you fangirls are shameless!

  • This is bullshit! This tolken guy has completely ripped off Peter Jacksons movie.. Even the same caracter name of "gullam"!!!!!!

Surely there has to be some kind of piracy issue going on or something but this is purly pathertic!!!

Somebody needs to take a lawsuit or something against this tolken guy because hes stealing Jacksons material!!!

  • @jroche420 LOL!!

  • @jroche420 Cracked did it first, and it only managed to be funny the first time because they wrote it well.

  • @jroche420 This joke was done before.

  • @jroche420 very humorous assessment, but i would very much like to reverse what you just said.

  • @jroche420 Good joke!

  • Much much better than Rob Inglis' audiobooks. Though Inglis does a very good job with Smeagol.

  • That was awesome n_n

  • A little lost treasure straight from the wizard’s mouth.

  • this is cool :D

  • I love this. It's amazing. I had no idea there were voice recordings of him

  • I love, love, love, LOVE listening to Tolkien read!♥ His voice is so soothing...

  • where can i find a free audiobook for the two towers. can anyone help

  • R.I.P. Tolkien.

  • A pity he's dead, even though he'd be over a 100 years old. I would really like a complete audiobook of The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit read by Tolkien himself.

  • Loyaute, I couldn't agree more. The Two Towers movie particularly butchered the storyline. I could deal with the plot edits in the 1st and 3rd movie (sort of), but the 2nd film was abomination. It somehow made some of the best characters look like idiots. There are some pretty good aspects of the movies though. If they just stuck with the plotline, it could have been so much better. But reading the books is still the best way to enjoy JRR. And hearing him read it is great too.

  • That's precisely why I *don't* want them to make a movie about the Silmarillion (they never will), and I'm awfully reluctant about seeing the Hobbit.

I mean - I loved the movies, but they really had to "tweak" the storyline from the books.

  • @PositiveEdge How they managed to ruin Faramir's character in the movie I'll never know. In the books he's wise and honourable, in the movie he was clueless and uncertain, basically a completely different person!

  • This is more like it!

It's a shame about the movie version...

  • The language acquires indeed a particular rythm. Kind of like the rythm and sonoricity of Latin.

  • Hearing Tolkien read is pure JOY!

  • I read this in a day, about ten hours but now ive nothing to read so I might read it again until i get the silmarillion or the fellowship.

  • I love hearing Tolkien read!

  • You keep nassty chipses! Smeagol wants it RAW and WRIGGLING!!

  • PO-TA-TOES!

Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew!

  • It's always amazing to hear it from the writer himself. Bless him for sharing this world to us.

  • how did i not know this existed?! bless you friend, is there more??

  • "Keep nasty chips!"

    I love it!

  • Thank you so much for sharing this! It is amazing to hear it from the Master himself, the way you should hear it. A complete treasure --- Po-Ta-Toes!

  • Genius.

  • I love how Smeagol sayd' Fish.

  • hahahhaha it sounds like they took smeagols voice from JRR.

  • wonderful

  • I love Sméagol's part!

J.R.R.Tolkien is the best writer ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you Vic for sharing this with me! Love this, thank you! **ladyknight**

  • Thank you Victor for sharing this video!!!!!!!

  • thanks for sharing this Vic, loved it!

  • this is really cool, thanks for sharing, i'd never thought I'd hear this.

  • sounds like yoda :P

    Glory to Tolkien

  • Tolkien had a deep voice, so Gollum's voice wasn't quite like it was in the movie.

But if he had a higher voice, i'm sure it would sound almost exactly like it.

  • Yes indeed but Andy serkis has the ability to make a deeper voice. He maybe able to do it like Tolkien did. Seeing as Andy did the witch king in the movie and he has a pretty deep voice.

  • Actually his gollum sounds a lot like Yoda. lol

  • COOL! I LOVE The Lord of the Rings and it's cool to hear Tolkien himself reading it!

  • When you think about it... Tolkien had put alot of thought into these books. he created whole languages and maps and things like that.

  • no duh dude

  • dude, this is awesome! Wow!

  • It's pretty evident that the producers of the movie heard these, isn't it? Gollum's voice as read by Tolkien is uncannily similar to the actor's who played the character.

  • No, it's more likly that every actor who ever did gollum was told that his voice was raspy. Each one did their own thing with it.

  • Oh my goodness...where did you get this?! Is there a recording somewhere out there of Tolkien reading the whole trilogy, or only a few excerpts? Again, thank you very much for posting these clips...you've made my day! :D

  • I don't think he ever read the entire thing. What You're hearing now is a tape made (I think) for publishing houses.

  • Great clip!

  • I havent heard this before! Brilliant!!

  • ha, ha...Gollums voice is sooooooooo funny!

    hilarious I'd say!

  • It *is* Tolkien. You can just have a listen to my other clips, and compare them, and you will see that it is the same voice.

  • Well, he did smoke a lot.

  • You must be thinking of the recordings later in his life. There are a few videos of him around 5 years before he died. This is when he was younger.

  • this is priceless! I LOVE HOW HE READS GOLLUM! When he shouts out "STEW THE RABBITS", I laugh every time! thanks for posting this, thank you very much.

  • Awesome, I've been looking for that piece of audio. Thanks a bunch. :]
