Ok, Tolkien....*cries tears of happines* how I wish I could have met you before died...You are truely the most amazing author; a pure genious!
His voice does, indeed, flow perfectly with the words. I could listen to his voice reading this forever and be perfectly content. *sigh* Is books are the most beautiful type of art.
@lavalizard3 Agreed. It's a shame that Professor Tolkien never did a full reading. I would kill to hear it read by The Professor himself; the unabridged version is rather good, but hearing Tolkien read it has no equal.
Marvelous! Tolkien imbues his work with such magic and charm - something completely missing from jackson's awful films. I mean they looked good - but that was it. I dread to think what The Hobbit films will be like - especially when jackson is quoted as saying that Thorin will be a "hunk", and will give "Aragorn and Leggy a run for their money". WTF is a "Leggy"!!
@kngfsh256 Richard Armitage is cast as Thorin as far as I know. He has a wonderful voice for the part...he is really hot but I don't think I'm going to mind :)
A pity he's dead, even though he'd be over a 100 years old. I would really like a complete audiobook of The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit read by Tolkien himself.
Loyaute, I couldn't agree more. The Two Towers movie particularly butchered the storyline. I could deal with the plot edits in the 1st and 3rd movie (sort of), but the 2nd film was abomination. It somehow made some of the best characters look like idiots. There are some pretty good aspects of the movies though. If they just stuck with the plotline, it could have been so much better. But reading the books is still the best way to enjoy JRR. And hearing him read it is great too.
@PositiveEdge How they managed to ruin Faramir's character in the movie I'll never know. In the books he's wise and honourable, in the movie he was clueless and uncertain, basically a completely different person!
Yes indeed but Andy serkis has the ability to make a deeper voice. He maybe able to do it like Tolkien did. Seeing as Andy did the witch king in the movie and he has a pretty deep voice.
It's pretty evident that the producers of the movie heard these, isn't it? Gollum's voice as read by Tolkien is uncannily similar to the actor's who played the character.
Oh my goodness...where did you get this?! Is there a recording somewhere out there of Tolkien reading the whole trilogy, or only a few excerpts? Again, thank you very much for posting these clips...you've made my day! :D
this is priceless! I LOVE HOW HE READS GOLLUM! When he shouts out "STEW THE RABBITS", I laugh every time! thanks for posting this, thank you very much.

Much much better than Rob Inglis' audiobooks. Though Inglis does a very good job with Smeagol.

That's precisely why I *don't* want them to make a movie about the Silmarillion (they never will), and I'm awfully reluctant about seeing the Hobbit.
I mean - I loved the movies, but they really had to "tweak" the storyline from the books.

The language acquires indeed a particular rythm. Kind of like the rythm and sonoricity of Latin.

Tolkien had a deep voice, so Gollum's voice wasn't quite like it was in the movie.
But if he had a higher voice, i'm sure it would sound almost exactly like it.

No, it's more likly that every actor who ever did gollum was told that his voice was raspy. Each one did their own thing with it.

Im reletively certain that this is not JRR Tolkein. Tolkein has a much harsher, scratchy voice. A great peace of reading none the less :)

It *is* Tolkien. You can just have a listen to my other clips, and compare them, and you will see that it is the same voice.
