fusion players quite often play more like scale exercises or licks and have straightforward rock phrasing. not mr. Hutchings. we could give this man an archtop, a polytone amp or something of this sort, tell him to play all the things you are, and he would do an amazing job, i'm pretty sure about that... he's just got it all.
Once you say that music is just what came from inside of one, you MUST figure out that Alex Hutchings have some amazing things to let out. Incredible player. Every one of his phrases feels right and intense. Can't get tired of his music, never. Truthful thumbs up!
Hahaha, I always think to the gear video with Richie Kotzen where he says he can't enjoy stuff played by people with their guitar up high because he can't take them serious. Makes me laugh, and Richie can play the shit out of his guitar haha.
hutchings is a very skillfull guitarist.. very nice jazz/rock fusion :)
juz wondering.. wat guitar does he use in this vid? i mean i knw its a musicman axis supersport.. but exactly which one, i do not knw.. any idea? thnx :)
Comments concerning his guitar height show how the world puts image above skill. I agree it would look a bit silly if he were to fill in with a punk or metal band... but he doesn't.
Alex is like the perfect hybrid between G.Benson, B.Lagrene, F.Gambale and much more, without beeing trapped in one specific style. He also got "built-in" musicality and great sensitivity. A real amazing musician here ! Love his music.
he's one of my new line of fave guitar players, along with Muris Varajic.. and btw, it's always better playing in high position.. i know it's kinda lame but indeed very effective..
How in the hell can he play with the guitar so close to his chin and his hair so static? Seriously, it doesn't move at all! Anyway, it sounds brilliant.
Because it's much easier and fluid to play a guitar that's in a higher, tight position, than slinging it down like and idiot and not being able to play shit lol.
Yes I loved him. Very approachable and down to earth. He knows his stuff inside out. He has a super smooth sound. I really regret missing gigs in my local area when he was playing... but I guess that's life. I would love to get a CD of this stuff... I'll let you know if I find one!
Just a standard ii V I VI (the VI can also be thought of as a V of ii) progression in Eb, in this case Fmin7 (Fmi7add9) Bb7 (Bb13 then Bb7alt) Ebmaj7 (Ebmaj6) C7 (C7alt). The actual chords he's playin are in the parentheses.
But you should try to learn stuff by ear as much as possible, it'll help your qualities as a musician grow a million times more than having stuff handed to you. :)
Well ya but a lot of it comes from knowing jazz theory and music theory in general really well, knowing how certain progressions sound, and knowing how different chord types and voicings sound. If all else fails, just play it back over and over again and try to pick out each note that's in the chord he's playin and figure out the fingering. That's how I figured the Ebma6 chord he played cuz I'd never really seen that voicing used before. : )
Books help, too, even if it's just bits and pieces of theory from different guitar books and videos and the internet, you start to get an overall picture.
Haha dude who freakin cares which variations of the names are used. Everybody says it a little different and they all mean the same thing. The chord is what's important. And I said Fmi7add9 to make sure that the reader knows that there's still a 7th in there cuz not everyone knows the theory as well.
it pretty hard to pull off tricky passages with your guitar hanging so low like those rockstars on tv...i guess thats why they mainly do rhythm and easyish leads

All the greats dont need to hang them low to "look cool", they let the music speak for itself and they are beyond cool.
