I think I like the 2010 trailer better. It seemed more ... adult in nature. This seems to be a little more geared for younger audiences with the included slapstick humor. The character weapons changed a bit too.
Sucks that this movie was canceled, I would have really liked to see it. I remember watching the original show when I was a kid, back when it was called Guardians of the Galaxy. Would have been cool to see a modern spin on it.

Astro boy is supposed to match up with robots from across the planet to become robot king/leader. There's supposed to be racial issues between robots and humans. It's supposed to be psychological. The "Gatchaman" movie has been shelved. Read somewhere that the execs. at Imagi have written the movie off as a loss; since "Astro Boy" was such a disappointment at the box office. I always felt that "Gatch" should've been given the green light first instead of that movie! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a straight to video release but even that seems unlikely! I really wanted to see this on the big screen.

Actually, G-Force and Gatchaman are the same series. Gatchaman is the original name, while G-Force was the name they used when they released it in the US to appeal to American audiences. According to the people working on this, it may be PG-13 or R rated, which is kinda appropriate when you saw how violent the Japanese version was.

Well I can remember this as a Japanese cartoon series called G-force 25+ years ago ( yeah the made for America version ), I even had their ship that broke up into individual vehicles , it inspired a whole series of giant transforming robot thingy’s and TV shows , we’re talking ages before the power rangers came on the scene , I think it started back in the early 70’s with science ninja team gatchaman , good to see them again
Okay, I wasn't going to say anything but since you mentioned it, yeah, we really have to get those faces down. Part of the reason I think is that we try to hard to make them too real looking when we should be more worried about the faces being expressionate. Something I've noticed happens in comic books as well, everything is real looking, but not very dynamic/stiff.
To be fair (coming from someone who does 3d and still learning) it's hard to put anime faces into 3d and make it still work. What really bugs me about this is that it looks cool but it fails to capture the way the original series moved and breathed and a lot of the shot compositions look too much like mainstream modern anime and not Tatsuko's brilliant dynamic animation.
@alekesam I get that it's hard capturing anime faces in 3D, but they don't have to be 'anime' to me. There's just too many Pixarish faces in American 3D animation. Heck, even the newest Transformers cartoon has little Pixar humans running around.

In regards to the anime, it's my personal opinion that "Battle of the Planets" is the best of the three titles; G-Force sounds a bit over-the-top and catoony; Gatchaman, if it wasn't for me looking at the anime itself, I would have been uninterested just by reading the title. It's not that appealing, and it's like most other anime titles.
Here's my slice of cake on this one: I'm not old enough really to judge Gatchaman; that's a given, but I've been interested in getting all original episodes due to a recent interest in it. Movie looks great to me, and it looks like the animation isn't in its final stage yet.
I am exicited. I grew up with Battle of the Planets G Force team, but I am glad they are caling this film by it's origianl name. Shows respect. Hopefully we will get to see the Phoenix go into burn mode, forgot what it was called when it did that :( I am thinking "transmute" but maybe that was something else. One thing I hope is left out is 7 Zark 7, he was kinda useless..
I like this trailer more. The first Imagi trailer looked too much like the Clone Wars animation. This looks more faithful to the original anime character design.
The animation looks mediocre at best which is a shame for such a promising film. Even the Astroboy movie's animation was better than this and that says a lot.

What really bugs me about this is that it looks cool but it fails to capture the way the original series moved and breathed and a lot of the shot compositions look too much like mainstream modern anime and not Tatsuko's brilliant dynamic animation.

@alekesam I get that it's hard capturing anime faces in 3D, but they don't have to be 'anime' to me. There's just too many Pixarish faces in American 3D animation. Heck, even the newest Transformers cartoon has little Pixar humans running around.

That's why I brought up how hard it is to translate faces. But for straight up original designs, yeah, they all have that plastic, doughy look. Shame too, because there's a lot of "amateur" animators out there that pull off some amazing faces and animation in 3d alot better than the "pros" wh

who seem to do rush jobs on these things. I'm not knocking Pixar at all tho' just to be clear. They do some fantastic work. What I'm knocking is the sub-par companies that try to do their style and do rush jobs and/or don't animate things very well. Like the freefall scene in the trailer, it doesn't feel like they're really falling. Stuff like that (and un-expressionate faces) really bugs me.

@michancita The hamster can go fuck themselves because G-force is the entire team. So that's why its named Gatchaman-force. Gatchaman sounds like a single character so i guess that's why they named them G-force

In regards to the anime, it's my personal opinion that "Battle of the Planets" is the best of the three titles; G-Force sounds a bit over-the-top and catoony; Gatchaman, if it wasn't for me looking at the anime itself, I would have been uninterested just by reading the title. It's not that appealing, and it's like most other anime titles.

Here's my slice of cake on this one: I'm not old enough really to judge Gatchaman; that's a given, but I've been interested in getting all original episodes due to a recent interest in it. Movie looks great to me, and it looks like the animation isn't in its final stage yet.

Gatchaman was created in 1972, the first sentai (which would creat the power ranger in the states) didn't air until 1975.

I am exicited. I grew up with Battle of the Planets G Force team, but I am glad they are caling this film by it's origianl name. Shows respect. Hopefully we will get to see the Phoenix go into burn mode, forgot what it was called when it did that :( I am thinking "transmute" but maybe that was something else. One thing I hope is left out is 7 Zark 7, he was kinda useless..
