If you are uncomfortable free-handing the peaks, just pencil them in and follow the lines with your knife. I made the two layers, with the taller peaks in the background and the shorter ones in front. I used a speical glue that is made for styrofoam, also can be purchased at a craft store. The knife comes with several "tips" and I used one to "carve" out some valleys and depressions on the top of the mountains to give them a rugges look. very, very easy. Good luck!

There is a tool you can purchase at Michael's or find on-line somewhere; it's a heated knife used to cut styrofoam. Thank you for the kind words. I got the North Pole sign years ago at a store in San Diego, I honestly can't remember if it was Department 56 or not. I have never seen another like it. I don't think the village will go up this year because I have other commitments this year, but next year for sure. If you collect the Halloween series, check out my Halloween Village (Laura's Halloween Village 2009, 1 and 2). I think it is way cuter than the Christmas village.
