  • First, that Germany is not interested in its own culture is nonsense. That oriental pianists cannot play Brahms is nonsense. Second, I was briefly a student at the Hamburg Conservatory in 1963. Robert Henry was my piano teacher, and he had been Erdmann's student when Erdmann died. Michael Steinberg was floored when he heard Henry play in the U.S., and all within range of NDR's transmitter were also floored whenever this deep artist played.

  • Like many other very talented artists, Erdmann was born in Riga, a truly multi-cultural city. So much for German performers :-)

  • dear klausknulp, do as I do, I never listen to them! you have a choice, is your stereo, computer, etc. If history teaches us anything is that beauty and genius transcend time and fashion trends.

  • @MrMusictalks so do I, never listen to langlang and company, the fashion dies but the eternal lives, and the german culture is important not only in Germany, but all over the world! I always teach my pupils to listen to Kempff, Fischer and others mentioned by klausknulp, however partly klausknulp is right.

  • erdmann, fischer, schnabel, gieseking, backhaus, kempff - very great german performers! now time has changed and we must listen to lan lan and yundi li, mitsuko ushida etc. I guess after 20 years we call peking if we want know something about bach and beethoven. germany is not interested anymore in his own culture

  • I hope , this is an error. Not all in germany are not interested anymore in there own culture !!

  • @klausknulp I think it too
