Thank you for posting your video of this unusual Green Frog! I've just seen one yesterday, here in Ontario, Canada for the first time! The one I saw was only teal on its head & neck. Good to know it's not been exposed to something toxic, as I first wondered. A reptile & amphibian field guide says that Green Frogs can even be electric blue. I wonder if you've seen any more since then.
Not to burst anyone's bubble, but blue (green) frogs aren't that uncommon. When you mix yellow and blue, you get green, right? Blue frogs are just lacking yellow pigment, leaving the blue expose. This can go on the back, legs, or all over the frogs body. It's a genetic disorder. No doubt, that is one of the most wonderful examples I've ever laid eyes on. Great job collecting it.
i live on the mississippi gulf coast &live a block 1/2 from the gulf of mexico. in the ditch in front of the house i saw a black bullfrog there was no other color on him (even the throat & underside were black) and a few days later my fiance saw him also . does anyone know or have pictures of one?
yea this is cool, its probably not a mutation, its just like having black or blond hair, its just very rar cause the green is most likely dominant, we were talking about this in science, my science teacher breeded frogs with someone and there is a specific type that now adays its so rare to find in blue that they sell for around 500$ each, u should have looked into breading if u didnt let it go, although u might have needed another blue one
Beautiful blue color. Do you still have him/her? Have you considered breeding him/her? I posted a video response of a blue paddy frog which i hope is carrying a genetic mutation.
The combination of green legs and blue back of your frog is very nice.
i got a wild toad that i raised but i got him a 10 gallon, reptile soil,exo-terra cork bark, heat pad, water dish and i buy him ckrickets so he can live long i have had him for a year now!!
Sogy6789 sorry your mistaken its a Green Frog (Rana clamitans melanota)lateral lines present. Also frogs are legal to posses in Michigan, and eat if you wanna! LOL! Not that we would... He was released so we could maybe get to see more.
Where I used to live in Washington, there were little frogs 2 inches long that came in a LOT of colors. Most were green, some were brown, some had some black spots. But I saw at least 1 yellow, and a "golden" frog that glinted in the sun. Or combinations...a green frog with golden legs, for example...
omg!!!!! i'm from newfoundland and my boyfriend found a frog exactly the same as the one you found!!!!! i've looked him up everywere and can't find another one on google or anything so far..... your's is the first one i have ever seen like it..... i posted a video response if you wanted 2 see mine..... i found him to be very tame so i assumed he was someones pet that got away since he was so unique looking and so tame....
yeah I would have kept it as a pet. I would have put it in a real big aquarium and bread it then let the tadpoles go back into the pond
