We go because at MSU we get an opportunity to view the world from a global perspective and receive one of the best educations in the country. I then read in the dean's blog about how she noticed nothing occurred until after that announcement... Go figure

People still have to be held accountable for their actions regardless of other circumstances. In the end it was their choice influenced or not.

Obviously not every college student is rich, there are many middle class students like myself. I lived on Cedar Street 25 years ago in a top-floor apartment with one of those wood balconies. Cedar Fest was a major highlight. It's good to see the tradition continue. I agree immensely with WLF311's post, and actually so does the dean of MSU. I was there and I was sober just watching everything occur. I was telling people after the fact that everyone was just having a good time until the riot gear showed up, and then they made the "official unlawful gathering" announcement at about 1am and about 30 minutes after that is when everything went wrong. I then read in the dean's blog about how she noticed nothing occurred until after that announcement... Go figure

How would the dean had responded if a couple of drunk idiots began fighting and one ended up dead? What would E. Lansing and the MSU student body have thought if the police hadn't broken that up and someone ended up dead? How about the property owners? What was their response? That the police should have let it run the course?

I agree partially with your statement, while the EL police have been known for the terrible ways they've handled "riots" in the past, you cannot completely blame what happened after the Unlawful Gathering on them. People still have to be held accountable for their actions regardless of other circumstances. In the end it was their choice influenced or not.
