anybody who doesn't like this scene doesn't like seinfeld. it's the epitome of what made seinfeld great. the only reason that such a clever show was ever so popular was that 90 percent of people didnt understand it and watched it for kramer's slapstick. those are the people who don't like this scene - idiots who simply don't get it and who equate seinfeld with garbage like 'friends'.
@shanekeane200123456 Wow, that's pretty intense, to call everyone who doesn't like this scene an idiot. Frankly, although I was glad they dug George out of the "Susan" relationship, I thought it was in bad taste to do it in the way that they did.
No, I didn't watch it for Kramer's slapstick (not that it wasn't funny, but it was far from the best thing about the show). I watched for the brilliant writing & the extremely clever interaction between the characters!
@shanekeane200123456 I kinda agree, in a less harsh way lmao... the writing here is simply genius. The awkwardness, the timing, the quick brush off... its amazing!
haha this is so awesome like a human being's death is nothing lol it wouldve been better if they all went to the morgue and started poking at her dead body!!
i just saw this one, i was getting for the doctor to say you got Punkd loll.Well neither kramer jerry or elaine like her very much, so i can see the lack of empathy. I got friends that are like that.
they forgot the best part!!!!! its when one of them say "lets go get coffee" like it's not a big deal. that line sums up the whole series in my opinion!!!!
Im sorry I just dont get the commedic value of this story line. Its way too fucked up. George has no remorse whatsoever, I mean they could have recieved the exact same effect if she just went into a coma or something, but death is absolutely ridiculous. I just dont get the humor. It went too far
@bbrofl, I get your point, but I think the comedic point about George's girlfriend is that he never wanted to be her boyfriend at all---she was utterly insensitive and railroaded him into what passed as a relationship. He spent lots of time avoiding her, trying to tell her to get lost---this was funny, although explaining it kills it. They both were creeps (VERY Seinfeld!) and here, what's funny is watching George try with every ounce of energy in him to not jump up and cheer--loathesome fun!
@Sladethetermanater87 Jason Alexander himself said that the sweetness of the George character was lost in this scene. Before this the audience could always empathize with George because he was the poor schmuck who couldn't catch a break and had no luck with women. But this cold and callous attitude toward someone's death really ruined the character.
@drlove1972 : As much as I like the show, I think the problem isn't only with George's character - it's the whole show. It's so focused on not deviating from observational humor that it refuses to allow its characters to grow, change, or develop as human beings. It's sort of the antithesis to Friends, which is capable of delivering emotion, but comes up short on delivering intelligent humor.
@ernestalba It's the antithesis to every show that's ever existed. I don't see a problem with that. This was a funny scene, and the epitome of what Seinfeld stands for. No lessons learned.
@toons1138: Every show has its pros and cons. There is no "perfect" show, no perfect work of art. Its lack of human drama is an example of a Seinfeld con. One can make a show "about nothing" and still infuse it with human drama. Consider the Simpsons. Every week they're back on the same couch, the same age, nothing changed. Yet, it delivers both emotional drama and character humor. Seinfeld had every right to not want to do that. But, as great as it is, it could have been that much better.
@ernestalba No hugging, no learning. If Seinfeld did not stick to these 2 main operating principles it would not have been as great a show. I think putting any human drama or emotion into it would have put it into another class of shows - a more common and less unique class of sitcoms - and would have have killed it.
I'm aware that its just a comedy show but how could George be happy and feel relieved after Susan died. She was a lovely woman I'm sure any man would love to be with. All he ever did was try to break up with her and then when he was alone he wanted her back. He could've had a great life with her instead of hanging out in Jerry's apartment discussing the details of every single daily event. George was the only one who seemed like a responsible adult when he was with Susan then he lost it all.
Oh my lord, did you record this from a gameboy??

I would best describe George's reaction as restrained jubilation.
