Pomaks are Bulgarians. They were forced to convert to Islam during the Ottoman Empire's reign or they converted by themselves, because being a muslim in Ottoman Empire had more benefices.
You can't judge people by their language or religion. You must see how they think, how they act, see their traditions and culture.

There was no forced convertion of Pomaks to Islam. The Koran pohibits forced islamization. If the Turks of the Ottoman empire have forcibly converted the Pomaks, why have they not converted all Bulgarians to Islam? Although, there was forced christianization of Pomaks in 1930's and 1970's.

Pomaks were voluntary converts to Islam. Torture, burning, forced conversion, murder of innocent people, are all explicity forbidden in Islam & history shows that these were traditional weapons used against Islamic communities, e.g. in Europe.

@turkistanim1 Most Greek moslems went to turkey in the 1920's because of a population exchange between Turkey and Greece. There are a significant group of pomaks who rather than accepting Sunni Islam, became Shia, because it was a more tolerant version of Islam and they could still observe some of their Orthodox customs. You can distort history in favour of Turkey Or Bulgaria but the truth is the truth and isn't as black & white as everyone makes out in a small 300 word Youtube essay!!

Pomaks are Bulgarians. They were forced to convert to Islam during the Ottoman Empire's reign or they converted by themselves, because being a muslim in Ottoman Empire had more benefices.

There was no forced convertion of Pomaks to Islam. The Koran pohibits forced islamization. If the Turks of the Ottoman empire have forcibly converted the Pomaks, why have they not converted all Bulgarians to Islam? Although, there was forced christianization of Pomaks in 1930's and 1970's.

But what about the persecution against Pomaks in Bulgaria? Why dont you tell about that? Some of the Pomaks had to escape from Bulgaria and went to Ottoman Empire during World War 1 and settled in Thrakya. About the Religion issues:
I agree that the most of the Pomaks were forced to be muslims.
But the tradition of the Pomaks is not a Bulgarian tradition!

As for "dhimmitude" and "jizya" - this was a protection for minorities in Islamic lands, the Christians and Jews (and others) being allowed to rule their own communities by their own laws, and as for jizya ... the Jizya tax is actually LESS than the tax on Muslims. Yes, Muslims were taxed more than non-Muslims in Muslim lands. These propaganda films and other such publications are extremely dishonest in all key points.

Pomaks were voluntary converts to Islam. Rape, pillage & forced conversions were in fact typical of anti-Muslim forces, e.g. the various Crusades in Europe (e.g. in Spain, & the Baltic), and the horrific persecution of the Pomaks by Christian Bulgarians (this included burning Pomaks to death). Torture, burning, forced conversion, murder of innocent people, are all explicity forbidden in Islam & history shows that these were traditional weapons used against Islamic communities, e.g. in Europe.

the origin of pomaks is not clear, that is the truth. The most logical explanation is that they are bulgarians by origin. However, durring the ages they had formed as pomaks, so they must try to keep the identity of pomaks. Unfortunately recent days some of them identify they self either bulgarian or turks.
