I am from Garden City, GA. and I got to say I am a BIG fan of the battle between these to schools. I attended Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, FL. back in 2000 but didnt finish because i went in the Marine Corps. I was stuck on the battle between SCSU and FAMU because it was my first major battle besides SAVANNAH STATE UNIVERSITY but yall have curved that. I don't know how long JSU been playing "the show" but SU's version is older than what most of y'all think. Mr. J wrote it when he was a high school band director. Not sure what year that was but he's been at SU since the early 90s. So do the math. Can't really say it was written around JSU's version.
@Angryman85 ...actually, SU's original version was from around the time "The Show" came out, 85. I think Roy J. wrote that version. MrJ's version didn't surface until '06.
@DTex I agree, but I will give the same impartial reply that I give to other bands who say the same thing about a song SU was playing first: It's easy to out-arrange another band after you heard them play it a million times. I hear JSU play it and it is just SO empty. Our arranger realized that and capitalized on it.
@a7u0g6boi ...yea, I feel you. BUT (IMO)...with SU's track record of being the better arrangement of any number of songs versus other bands...I don't think that arguement holds much weight. Valid...but, borderline irrelevant. Ain't too many songs that JSt has a better writing on.
@DTex Oh no, don't get me wrong! I didn't say that is the SOLE reason!!! But, as a composer/arranger myself, it DOES help to hear what someone else has left out/could have added. SU does have the best team of dedicated arrangers in the SWAC, and possibly HBCU marching band world, if you ask me.

Im so glad we are playing them in batoun rouge.I wont be attending. O and jus cuz you play a song differently(extra screamers) does not make it yours and or better. Stop it. I am from Garden City, GA. and I got to say I am a BIG fan of the battle between these to schools. I attended Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, FL. back in 2000 but didnt finish because i went in the Marine Corps. I was stuck on the battle between SCSU and FAMU because it was my first major battle besides SAVANNAH STATE UNIVERSITY but yall have curved that. Cant get enough but one of my former marines attend JSU and showed me some videos and im hooked. Hurley Tolbert III i see you dupe!

Greatest band comparison post on youtube. No one can dispute the quality from either angle. With that said, SU SMASHED JSU!! JSU messed up when they tried to get a jump on their next song to try and out blow SU. That was a bad mistake and now its all over youtube. LOL!!!!! Don't ever do that again JSU cuz the boot aint playing. I hope Bandtube brings us more comparison videos like this one. This right here lets u know what the real deal is.

su band is good. they have a good range and balance between horns......but no dynamics. JSU takes this one even if you couldn't hear them half the time.lol. But don't forget both of these bands have talent.

that song belong to Southern University. We was the First College Band to ever play it. Go youtube this song SU from the 1980's... also, why jsu added Southern's unique style and sound to this song. the break at 2:31 jsu has added to them version? While your youtubing shit. Dude, you tripping. this song was !st played by Southern in the late 80's. tell me this, why jsu added SU's version to their version? see it at the 2:15 mark on this clip. Go youtube that and while your at it check out how jsu's style has changed to keep up Southern. Also, jsu played SU's 2nd lind this year and the SU & jsu game.

I don't know how long JSU been playing "the show" but SU's version is older than what most of y'all think. Mr. J wrote it when he was a high school band director. Not sure what year that was but he's been at SU since the early 90s. So do the math. Can't really say it was written around JSU's version.

@DTex I agree, but I will give the same impartial reply that I give to other bands who say the same thing about a song SU was playing first: It's easy to out-arrange another band after you heard them play it a million times. I hear JSU play it and it is just SO empty. Our arranger realized that and capitalized on it.

@DTex Oh no, don't get me wrong! I didn't say that is the SOLE reason!!! But, as a composer/arranger myself, it DOES help to hear what someone else has left out/could have added. SU does have the best team of dedicated arrangers in the SWAC, and possibly HBCU marching band world, if you ask me.
