Ohh... I remeber that for Croxley Railway Ltd 1980. Now sadly closed for carry away the line. But now restore in East Kent Railway and enjoy open day!
@MusicalElitist1, yeah they were using a diesel, they used a class 09 shunter, and on one trip the took the 09 off and used the MLV (Motor luggage van) this they charged up the batterys on the MLV so it was on electric for 1 trip.
EPb's - superb - snotmale - I had no idea the PAN units lasted that long! I knew they had a second lease of life in Kent in the early sixties but I'm surprised they survived to the seventies - That said on a modern note,I'm glad some VEP's are still in existance in my home town at Chart Leacon - I always try to photo them when I go by!

@SAMIEWALLFORD756 If the Croxley line you refer to is from Watford, they were run on electricity from the 3rd rail, not battery. :-)

Forgive my ignorance, but if there is no electric, how are they running? With the diesel on the front pulling it? Sorry, I'm new to all this...

How long is the battery life of an MLV out of interest?
puziparrot 3 years ago
im not shore about that.

Just found this on wikipedia:
The batteries allowed the units to be used at low-speed for 20-30 minutes.
