I'm not sure I'd call it passive...there was ippon in the first 5 seconds past sonkyo. Sato sensei was probably playing safe to avoid reprisal from Uchimura sensei people do that all the time, which isn't unheard of at competitions.
He had a hansoku beacause he did a wrong tsubatzeriai, that could be interpreted by his passiveness in that instance, only uchimura was looking to make an ippon wile sato was just protecting himself and not trying to score.
