What if the "y" variables and "x" variables dont line up like you have them? What do I do then, do I just add them the way they are?

@ChristianMota99 you have to find a number that cancels out that y. if the top equation was a 4y the bottom equation you would have to multiply by a 4 unless the sign is a positive.(remember we are trying to get them to cancel out). since you have to multiply the y you also have to multiply the rest of the equation witch adds to 28x-4y=60. now the y's cancel and you can add both equations up now.

Since our answer, like I stated before, is x=2, the teacher substituted x to 2, and put the 2 in paranthesis like this: 3(2) + y = 5. 3 x 2 = 6, and subtract 6 from both sides. It's y = -1. The quadrants will now be (2,-1)

Guys i figured it out. What you have to don't have a problem like the one up there, you have to take the number beside the y and multiply all terms in the second equation. After that, you just do the same thing, combine the equations, which will cancel out the y's. Example: 4x+3y=0 y-x=-7 3·(y-x=-7) 3x-3y=-21 4x+3y=0 3x-3y=-21 -------------- 7x=-21(the 3y's cancel) Divide both sides by 7 and you get: x=-3 eh, well, im sure the rest you know for finding the ordered pairs..
