  • This guy plays really well! Where is that other video where he's laughing and acting goofy before and after playing this piece? I miss that one.

  • Paganini's 5th is my favorite

  • and he is not asian!

  • Gooood, i hate you.. Now i have to get carpal tunnel again just to get my ego up and running.

  • this dud eis awsom. what kind of guitar is he on, it has good tone?

  • Do guitars make people lose weight? lol Andy Mckee also lost lot of weight oer the years.

  • @Clevergamer If you move your hands like that then yes.

  • This is amazing. I think I need to show some more people this video...

  • How in the world could anyone, let alone 7 people, dislike this. They would have to be idiots with absolutely no idea of what it takes to play this piece so well. Absolutely amazing!!!

  • stunning. I would even venture so far as to say that it can compete with Steve Vai's version, which I have only previously said of Jason Becker

  • Why doesn't this have more views? I bet all the noobs who like Ewan now have never seen this. Good for him though, the more people that like him the more the world will know about his talent.

  • you are my god!

  • Hello, I hope Mr. Dobson reads this. I am a fellow musician 20+years now. There are times in our music lifes where we come up against what i call "Walls". We get stuck and feel like we can't write, play, we think we suck or just don't feel like playing. I've been in that rut for sometime now and then yesterday my Best friend showed me Ewan Dobsons's video's on here. WOW!!!!!

This man is trully disiplined, focused, well minded and definately driven

  • That is just "beginning" to describe what i felt when hearing and seeing Mr. Dobson play. He has put that musical inspiration back into me. I know what it means to practice that much. Thank you Mr. Dobson for being a blessing to us all, and gracing us with your musical style.

  • 7 justin bieber fans dislike this vid......

  • damn i only live 2 hours away from this guy, i would do anything to meet him and have a few words and maybe a jam. his newer stuff (past couple years) is extremely outstanding and alot of it takes days of practice just to get the amadextric capabilities down

  • good play my friend, i go to study the lic. in music, (guitar) and the teachers are very stricts, they not permit the pick obiusly, but im also a elctric guitar and y think, if paganini for the violin use the arch but why not use the pick for the guitar what you think?. good look my friend and sorry for my bad english i speak spanish cheers from mexico.

  • nice blueridge

  • This man has soul and spirit...

  • amazing!

  • The link in the video annotation leads to a closed YouTube account.

  • genial!!!!

  • He's playing it on an acoustic, with a pick, steel string no less.

  • His hair had to go for his Ninja/Jedi Knight battles, and he lost the weight with guitar solos- looks like some crazy finger exercises to me! :-)

  • Guitar is one of those things where it's impossible to quantify who's "the best", however, from time to time, a contender for that title arises. He's one of them. Took 3rd at Winfield this last year, which should've been first IMO.

If you watch carefully in his videos, his hands seem to be unusually large. Seems to be a case where everything 'came together' as far as the the highest caliber musical mind, maximum dedication to learn and the best possible physical gifts to accomplish the task.

  • i've known ewan for over 10 yrs since we were teenagers... though he s naturally gifted, he s one of the few to have understood that music requires lots of work and patience, and has incredible willpower, he's easily able to practice countless hours a day (and practice slowly and correctly to get everything right) without getting bored... that's really the secret to his success

  • Ok, just stumbled on this vid and have burned all my musical equipement in one pile... thanx Mr. Dobson!

  • that guy is as good as anyone

  • now let aside the music, he looks way better now with hair cut and a few pounds less than in this vid lol :)

Congrats on the image advance ;)

  • Excellent , and no ninja suit cool.

  • simply amazing, thanks for posting!

  • Try to do a guitar and violin duet whith his song.

  • WOW! Great playing. Love it!

Do you have the tabs? :)

  • holy shit, did he ever lose weight!

  • man he has lost a lot of weight wince this video

  • @killmaster yeah at first i did not realise it was him O.o

  • holy shit

  • you mother is men !!!

  • Is there an adjective to describe that?

  • Wow..people who are knocking the visual of his Candyrat videos should see this. Then it would make a lot more sense. He's obviously become much more disciplined in all aspects of his life hence what he now wears. The playing has only gotten better if that was possible. And he looks much healthier now as well. Kudos.

  • Except that this video was taken before the CandyRat vid.

If people can't appreciate this then fuck em'.

  • Yes that's what i meant by "now". This was 2 or 3 years ago. He's way more intense now.

  • he was intense 10 yrs ago, i have videos from back then, i'll see if he 'll let me post them... he used to be a classical guitar champ

  • That would be cool to see. Andy Mckee has some older ones up so you can trace his progress. Nice to do the same with Ewan.

  • Definitely. That would be awesome!!!

  • absolutely amazing!

  • I wish I could rate this 10 stars! 5 for performing that high octave on a steel string acoustic with no cut away! Then 5 for weight loss! I found Ewan by way of my @rpoland subscription...now, on to Ewan's channel!

  • kick ass perform dude awesomee!!

    i can't play it yet!

  • wow he spreads his pinky pretty far. good pinky usage.

  • yeah! his pinky has a life of it's own. independent of the other fingers.

  • seriously, that's something very hard to develop. I'm slowly starting to work on it now, but I know it will take me years to have it independent of the ring finger.

  • the pinky was rarely used on the guitar (non-classical that is ) until abuot the 70s/80s.... anyway practice makes perfect

  • he's one of those guys who continues to be a prodigy well after childhood

  • He lost allot of weight since 2007, not that it would influence my taste in music, but still good for him.

  • Huh? Oh, sorry, just gotta pick my mouth up off of the floor here..

  • creo que es la mejor version que he escuchado para guitarra.

  • das ist schon echt der hammer..dieses alles auf reihe zu bekommenn!! respekt;)

  • Amazing player!!!

  • Awesome!

  • Insane........well done! That is amazing to listen to and I can only imagine the work that went into it.

  • fucking insane brooo shit :S

  • doood! he got a hair cut and lost weight! i never imaged that this is ewan!

holy crap, even two years ago he beats the crap out of me on guitar!

Hey you, yeah you who posted this vid! tell him: im impressed! (only in case you know him, haha)

  • i've known ewan since we were about 16 yrs old or so.. .at that age he was just as good as this... until about recently he had no care to share his music with the world.. so i'm glad he finally did it

  • i think a lot of people are glad he did^^

    he´s just incredible...

  • @dmmc1043: That's fascinating. Many of us are so glad that he decided to share his music.

  • ma sei di imola??!

  • excellent playing... could not do it better myself... xD

  • Is this the guy on candyrat?? O_O

  • uhu yeah... he had a neat transformation huh xD

  • Holy crap, he should have a website about how he beat world of warcraft XD

  • it sure is.....he went into the army I think

  • no he didn't ... he's just crazy, always has been, alwasy will be! hahaha

  • Giant FINGERS maaaan!

  • For those of you new to Ewan I recommend: watch?v=4-JBgD8brIU

  • lol below

    v v

  • There's a spider on your guitar! No wait, that's just his insanely fast-moving fingers.

  • Alright, now you're ready to play a rock-off against Steve Vai and Beelzebub

  • Obviously nobody else saw Crossroads : /

  • crossroads? featuring steve vai as "the devil?"

  • you remind me of the great guitarist

    Shawn Lane:)

    nice playing man!:D

  • wow, respect..

  • you are awesome!

  • Five stars for The Karate Kid

  • some1 buy this guy an electric guitar he's good

  • Why do you want people to wank on electric guitars. What this guy does is acoustic metal.

  • Here! Here! Acoustic metal is the way to go!

  • it's actually more difficult to play this on his acoustic, no need to decrease difficulty here.

  • oh i no it is it hurts playing metal on acoustic but this would sound good on electric

  • haha seriously!

  • Holy shit! Never seen it done on a steel string before. Excellent.

  • Well consider that it was written for violin, then adapted for guitar. Both on gut strings and finger picked on classical guitar. Now think about how much easier it must be to play on steel strings.

  • to be honest with you, I think it would be harder to play this on a steel string guitar with a pick... acoustic steel strings are not as smooth to play as a classical.

  • Have you ever had proper classical training? Nylon may seem easier but it's not. It's much easier to gain speed with a pick than it is with fingers. Try alternate picking with two fingers i,m,i,m, then try with a pick. Pick is much faster. I guarantee it.

  • I have had classical training and I would say this piece would be more difficult on steel string.

  • Ok. I find that difficult to believe and since you have no videos of you playing, even more so. Watch Dimitris Kotronakis on the related videos here. It's tough to sweep pick without a pick. Not that it can't be done, it's just not as easy or as fluid. Classical guitar neck is wider, deeper and the frets are larger. Also, it is more difficult to reach the higher frets because the join is at the 12th fret rather than the 14th.

  • You find it hard to believe I studied classical guitar? That's a bit silly. Everything else you say is true, but I still say it's more difficult on the steel string which is just a more difficult instrument to play in my own opinion. All the obstacles you have mentioned can be overcome by proper positioning which I imagine you already know.

  • Maybe it's a matter of comfort then? I don't find steel string difficult at all. And, the use of a pick just makes it that much easier. Finger picking a classical piece on steel is difficult but sweep picking through a piece is a lot easier than trying to alternate pick through it on nylon. That's just my opinion.

  • I myself have not been classically trained, and you are probably right about the right hand part being easier with a pick, but I think the left hand part with nylon strings would be easier, and for an experienced classical or flamenco player, the right hand part shouldn't be a problem using three fingers.

  • bravo, bella

  • What happened to your other ewan dobson videos? Those were great.

  • VERY VERY AWESOME!!!! Bravo, bravo, bravo!!!

  • VERY IMPRESSIVE i can barely play that on an electric much less on an acoustic very nice

  • estas enfermo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Niiiiiiiice, it was pretty cool to watch!

  • hell yeah, dill! are you playin a blueridge here??? Thats what I been playin too

  • Bravo 10+,poi con un chitarra acustica !

  • incredible!

  • Bravo, Bravo.

  • omg the poor guy seems like he was just about to die.. lol damn great job!! awesome!!

  • This man is clearly a robot. That was impossible.

  • Great job!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • outstanding

  • fuckin awesome.... Genius

  • it sounds so much better on an acoustic/classical guitar in comparison to the the people who play it on an electric guitar. bravo!

  • I thought that was impossible...

  • This has to be the best , it's the right pace and tempo for this piece.

  • owned? yes :)

  • nice dude! its safe to shred classical. the "no feeling" dudes hide under a rock.

  • mother fucker, this guy is my hero

  • Oh shit...

  • easy, it could be Vai or Malmsteen but Jason Becker is one of the greatest guitarrist that have ever lived he deserves alot or respect

  • Jason becker didn't even get a chance really.....just imagine how he'd be now and all the music he would have made if he didn't come down with that crippling disease....So i don know how someone can go off and talk shit about becker like that....

  • thats an amazing you tube name! One of my favorite movies!!!

  • Great Ewan! The sweep picking is flawless and highly musical.

Check out my fingerstyle version for Flamenco guitar. Let me know what you think.

You can find out under "Omar Torrez, Eugene's Trick Bag"

    Peace Ewan, Great job!

  • good job dude, really, rock on!

  • Goddamn. How long did it take you to master this piece?

  • you are a god :) teach me :P

  • too many notes

  • Not enough you mean. The intro could not be played on guitar because it is simply to fast ascending in pitch. Paganini would probably like it anyways because he was one of the fastest classical musicians of that time and he still is probably.

  • ok. that's fucking insane.

  • god.......much better than the electr-guitar one!!!!!!
