Why is Barbara Lynns version the best in 500 words or less!!Essentially,technically just a great singer.the phrasing,the voice modulation.Emotionally,well Im a 55 yr old male sitting here in tears after listening to her.Her singing is honest.John from australia
wow, wow .........just a killer version i might even like it better than etta's.......either way what a tremendous interpretation.......how could someone this good be so forgotten......long live barbara lynn.......she needs to be rediscovered.......
@leyburnhealeyman hey, i did check out christine mcvie's version......yes,... very awesome. i looked into a bunch of her stuff with chicken shack ,solo. and fleetwood mac.......how GREAT this girl is!!!!! never realized what she was all about before.......it is a travesty that she has not been properly recognized for her brilliance........she was so significant to fleetwood mac, but so unfairly overshadowed by stevie nicks.
Picking leads with her thumb while keeping up a strong rhythm with the rest of her left hand and.... singing with all her soul feelings.
What a classy, soulful Barbara Lynn !
Hope their are promoters out there that can bring her back for once before it's to late that we won't hear this genuinely sweet classy lady. Barbara I love your charisma , your electric guitar sounds and most of all your wonderful singing voice, bless you.
@4empress Look at the duo Mickey and Sylvia. Sylvia was a guitar student of Mickey's. Their signature song was"Love is strange". Barbara Lynn is tough, no doubt!
The first time I heard this song was back in England in high school in '69. It was a recording by Christie McVie with the Chicken Shack. I was blown away with it and still remember it all these years later. This seems to be the original ! Oh, no... I stand corrected... seems Etta James was the original .... nest step, look up Etta James !

Love Barbara....every song is from the heart. We used to call her "The Left Hand of Death" back in the day cause she was (still is) such a SMOKIN' guitarist!
the original is actually called "i d rather be a blind man" by Ellington Jordan AKA Fugi...an associate of Black Merda...Etta James made it a hit when she altered the lyrics"i d rather go blind"....check this others out.great music.
GREAT VERSION IT'S SO AMAZING HOW SINCE BEYONCE SANG THIS SONG IT HAS MADE SO MANY PEOPLE AWARE OF THE BEAUTY OF THE MUSIC AND THE SONG...CLASSIC!!!1

@johnnyrockintalkin
I do agree with you 110%, she needs to be rediscovered and needs to be honored now that she is alive.
Miss barbara Lynn was given a Pioneer Award by the Rhythm and Blues Foundation in 1999.
There weren't really any women playing electric guitar than in those days( I think in the 60s)
She is an incredible guitar player and soul singer, no doubt about that.
