Thanks! I have more than 20 years working in Windows environment, but right now I am starting using Mac and your video helps me a lot. I really appreciate!
What is the point of having both close & minimize button, when they both done the same thing? When you close the safari, instead of exit the application, it minimize into application icon
@TrustedInstaller no actually thats you and no offence but windows is kinda not as good as a mac i have windows myself but not mac and you can run windows on a mac via BOOTCAMP
Great video. Im thinking of getting an imac for my personal use, email/office work and stuff. Just want it separate from my gaming and porn surfing pc hahaha.
I hate that in OS X, when you click close it doesn't really close in most cases.
I prefer the Windows version of maximize, because I'm usually doing one thing out of all the things I'm doing at a time, and I prefer to have the roomy feeling of all the white space, lol.
Finder is more like Explorer in Windows, it's the main thing that launches initially at startup, there really is no real equivalent to the Windows Start Button in OS X.
@Jared3737 ok, ignore my username for this question because i am genuinely interested: which things did microsoft copy? im not saying they didnt copy i just want to know what
@morvern66 it is the disk drive...if you put a disk in the driver the clicking will stop...its normal for white macs...its your computers way of trying to find a disk
I tried putting a disk in the driver and leaving it in, but it still clicks every 15-30 seconds... I can't figure out what it is. It's not so loud, only pretty annoying.
Great vid! I'm a new mac user & I just bought the macbook whiite unibody. Question: When I sit in a really quiet room I can hear a faint clicking sound from the left side of the computer, every 15, 30 seconds. Confession: I'm kinda anal about stuff like that, so is the noise normal or do I go to apple? Is there a possibility there will be a firmware update to stop it?
@morvern66 it could be the hard drive... is the clicking loud?? i mean computers tend to make noises... does it make the noise when you aren't using it? i would only worry if it's making the noise when it's on but you aren't using it.
I took it to the apple store and they checked it out and said there was nothing they could do about it, and that if anything was wrong with the computer it will manifest itself with time and then I can come back... I guess I'll have to get used to it... :(
That's the sudden motion sensor. My MacBook Pro does the same thing. The sudden motion sensor prevents your Mac's HD from being damaged when it's suddenly moved.
You can find out more about this sudden motion sensor on Apple's website.
Awesome video and very very helpful to new Mac users. I think sometimes, we Mac long term users within the community can sometimes forget that we constantly have new members moving to the Mac community and so they can on occasions get left out. I find with your videos iTalk, everyone is catered for, New intermediate and Mac Pros. Excellent video and information.
Just a note that your number 3 is actually optional... If you go to the 'Window' menu while in Photoshop (etc), and select 'Application Frame', you'll have the grey background.
I really like you videos - I switched to Mac a year ago, and you were one of the first people I followed, your videos are a great help. I also like the fact that they are a little longer than most videos on here. Keep the good stuff coming :-)
Great vid! I'm a new mac user & I have a question: I have a new macbook white unibody & I can hear a small clicking sound in the left part. It occurs at least once a minute and since I'm kinda anal about stuff like that it' driving me nuts. Is that sound normal? Otherwise the mac is really silent, but for that one noise...
Love your videos! I'm a new mac user & I have a question; I have a macbook white unibody and I can hear a small click coming from the left side. It clicks at least once a minute and although it's kinda quiet I still hear it. I'm quite anal about stuff like that so can you tell me if it's normal or not?
Can you do the 'snap to maximize' function like on Windows 7? I've really got used to that. I'm thinking about buying a MacBook Pro once they get updated, Although I am very happy with Windows 7.
I don't think that you need a microphone, because I can hear you perfectly and if you can't then just turn up your volume. :) But, if you were to get a mic then I would suggest getting the Blue Snowball Microphone it looks like it would be of great quality.
invest into a external microphone they are great for video conferencing and they would add a better viewer enjoyment level they will get rid of most background noise. Or even just use the earphones with mic that come with the iphone or 3rd Generation iPod Touch
ITALKAPPLE: YOU DONT NEED A MICROPHONE AND DONT LET ANYONE TELL YOU THAT YOU NEED ONE, we can all understand you just fine and clearly so why should you waste your money on something thats already perfect. :D
And of course, Windows Explorer supports uploading files to a FTP, while Finder only supports connecting to a FTP and downloading files from it.
I use FTP alot, both private and in my work.
So when you have OSX it means that you have to have a 3rd party FTP-client.
Usually you have that on your Windows-computer as well.
But it is handy (when you are borrowing someones elses computer) to be able to use FTP for both uploading and downloading, without the need to install a program on the computer.

thanks :) yeah i couldn't put the icons on that account back to the default without changing everything on my account... but i figured they are mostly close enough to the originals.
If you tune in on the built in mic correctly you don't need a microphone, but it never hurts!

great video once again, i switched to mac and i still loose myself sometimes, i guess some of my problems are:
1- create a stack (like put all office apps in a stack without putting the extra files. Ex: just word and excel but not powerpoint)
2-print screen... guess i have to memorize a combination of keys
3-some Apps (adobe cs3/cs4) don't have a "grey" background, you can see what's behind the image or html file you're editing, anoying!
Get well on your cold, best wishes from Portugal :)

Even though the Finder has a lot of nice features like Cover Flow I still prefer some of the ways Windows Explorer works, in terms of file management.
The Statusbar in Windows Explorer shows you how much space the files in the current folder use.
If you mark multiple files, rightclick and choose properties, it shows combined stats for the files.
If you do that in Finder, without holding ALT, you'll get a screen full of info-boxes, 1 pr file.
But by all means. OSX is good. I prefer it. :)
