He's the warrior class, with a bit of magic added on. When he performs his Ex mode he becomes the knight class.

Battle of the "super emos" of FF. In an emo fight i'd say Leon/Squall (this doesn't include his Kingdom Hearts persona, which seems slightly better).

In an actual fight i'd say Cloud. They probably have about the same strength, speed, magic ability. But tie goes to the guy who has the bigger sword.

True, but there is a massive difference between "over-rated" and "bad". Final Fantasy VII was anything but bad, it made the RPG genre far more acceptable among gamers, with its epic storyline and (for its time) graphics. I'll admit, that the battle system wasn't groundbreaking.

I'm not a fanboy by the way. VI was my favourite.

I don't think FF7 was 'bad', just not nearly as good as most people say. For most FF gamers, it was their first, so it will always be the best to them. Me, I started at FF1, so FF7 is at the bottom of my FF list. The play control was crap, the storyline was choppy, and a semi-rehash of earlier titles, the soundtrack sounded artificial, and the ability system made no sense.

Don't get me wrong, FF7 could be remade into one of the all-time great games. Upgrade the graphics to 2000 standards, remaster the in-game soundtrack, re-translate, expand the game to 4 CDs as was originally intended, smooth out some of the holes in the storyline and the play control, make some sense of the materia system (maybe favoring a 'class' system), you'd have a solid game on your hands. Wouldn't make the FF7 fanboys any less annoying, but nothing's perfect. :)
