My 7 year old daughter was sitting on the couch with me, where I was watching the early election results come in. She asked, "Where's Miss Sweetie Poo?" I think she's onto something--I think the government could benefit immeasurably from the addition of a few carefully placed Miss Sweetie Poos...
Dr. Nakamats should get an award for beating Miss Sweetie Poo at her own game! Can anyone explain the paper planes to me? Also, will someone please buy me an airline ticket so I can come and watch next years awards? They look like fun!
@verticalsmurf The throwing of paper airplanes during the ceremony has been an unofficial Ig Nobel tradition for many years now.
Also, this year's ceremony is available via live streaming webcast, right here on YouTube! So no need for you to spring for an airline ticket. Also, I believe the ceremony is sold out already... so the webcast is likely the best chance you have anyway. :)
@ImprobableResearch - Are the throwing of paper planes the equivalent of throwing roses to an opera singer, or is it more a pre-cursor to Miss Sweetie Poo? Does every seat come equipped with a pad of paper and notes on how to build the best paper planes? I guess what I'm asking is, is it an insult or an honour to have paper planes thrown at you?
@verticalsmurf I think the planes are mostly the equivalent of random heckling from the audience. We provide no paper to the attendees except for the IgBill program. The vast majority of planes are created from paper provided by the audience themselves. Sanders Theatre has cracked down on the practice more in the past several years, leading us to develop ever more ingenious ways to not interrupt the ceremony or injure people while still acknowledging the tradition.
OMG How annoying!!! LOL

At 4:33 the scientist should have actually used his kid-repelling ringtone on Miss Poo instead of just going on about it.

@SuperSangfroid He probably forgot his phone and thought at the podium: "Uh-oh! Should have brought it along!"

She needs to be hired for such events as the Academy Awards, the Grammies, the Cannes Festival, and the Red Carpet Review!
