Nicole Kidman as Ann Coulter. I hear Ann has a gross twat. A disgusting twat. A filthy twat. A smelly twat. A horrendous twat. A shitty twat. A hairy twat. A dry twat. A leathery twat. A big twat. A twat. All the same.
I read the book in my Children's Literature course and loved it. I was excited to watch this movie, but I was very disappointed. I especially hated how they completely left out the book's ending, which was one of the most shocking moments in the novel.
The whole movie just felt soulless and manufactured; like it was trying to cash in on Harry Potter success. I felt like the people who made the Potter films actually enjoyed the books, but I got none of that here.
@cochranexyz Obviously fitting a novel that is several hundred pages into a film is going to require some cutting (or a movie length beyond the attention span of children), but the Harry Potter movies at least left all the important plot points intact. The Golden Compass cut out the entire ending of the novel!
Roeper and sidekick seem a little more lukewarm on this flick than Ebert, who gave it four stars. Also, the "atheist allegory" aspect of this definitely went over my head, I simply don't see it.
@xxcrysad3000xx I didn't see the atheist allegory either, the third book if you read is very pro-atheism. I think the first book doesn't get that much into atheism. I thought the movie was all right.
i still think transformers deserved the effects oscar, not this.

@starlinej No they didn't. The Potter novels would best have been a miniseries.
